Simsbury's Omitted History

This article reads like a straight up demographic write up. Somone needs to write more about the initial enormous size of Simsbury. That Simsbury initially encompassed a land area that makes up the present day towns of; Granby, East Granby, Canton, New Hartford, Barkhampstead, East Barkhampstead. I'm not a professional writer but this article is an inadquate contemporary or historicle discription of Simsbury, CT. It does not even talk about how the town came upon the name of Simsbury. It does not talk about the various subdivions into other municpal corporation. It does not address the current influence that Simsbury has on in Hartford County and in the area of the Farmington Valley. It does not reference King Philip's (Metacomet) war on New England and how Simsbury was rebuilt from the sacking and burning by King Philip.

It does not talk about the Ensign Bickford Company, maker of explosives. There is a lot to talk about when looking at Simsbury

Simsbury has a rich history and that needs to be discussed some more

Go to it! If you cruise around Wikipedia, you'll find a lot of entries for places just like this one -- bare demographic data, and that's all. (I think they were created by bots.) All of those entries are jumping-off points for people who know their towns' history and character and have the motivation to expand on the entry. I added some things on the History section, but there aren't many good references on Simsbury's history on the internet. I will continue to look for more references.--(Wikipedian1234 (talk) 18:55, 29 March 2008 (UTC))

Urban Sprawl Comment

"The population is enitirely due to urban sprawl in metropolitan Hartford"

This is an irresponsible comment to include in a encyclopedia article. I don't understand what is meant by the population is entirely due to urban sprawl (i.e. vs. 83% of the population). Leoleo0422 13:07, 29 January 2007 (UTC)

"Rural" is not the word I'd use.

Simsbury is a rural town in Hartford County, Connecticut, United States.

I'm from Simsbury. Even thirty years ago, its description as "rural" was highly questionable. Now it is unquestionably a suburb (on the basis that its pattern of development is entirely suburban, despite the lingering presence of one dairy farm) and decribing the town as "rural" is plainly and simply inaccurate if not dishonest. If the designation as "rural" comes from some some formal source (US Census records, for example), I'd like to see a citation for it, and a caveat that such a source may not reflect the current character of the town. --7Kim 17:43, 29 April 2007 (UTC)

Removed Simsbury is derived from a Native American word meaning "Great River."

This is not true. Connecticut is derived from the Eastern Algonquian word quinnitukqut, meaning "long tidal river", which may be the source of the error; but "Simsbury" is in form a standard English place-name. It is possible, though unlikely, that the "Sim" portion is derived from some indigenous term, but -bury is a common English place-name suffix. --7Kim 18:09, 29 April 2007 (UTC)
