National Team Performances by Coach[edit]

I would love the ask for everyone's opinion if we should add a full detailed table of performances by coach or just our current manager statistic. As Icedwater has helped to expand the National Team Performances by Coaches section instead of just putting our current manager Bernd Stange statistics, I would love to see if anyone has the accurate and exact data of our past coaches? Also, which year should we begin the table from?

From what I have noticed in the past, there used to be a table of managers but many were inaccurate and quite a handful of them even had "?" put in place because their manager statistical records were not available online or on print. I understand that data might be lost or might not even be recorded down on anywhere. Therefore, when I assisted in improving the Singapore national football team wiki page sometime back, I had instead just left a row of our nation's manager current statistic, which is just Bernd Stange. Since we have the lack of accurate data and seeing question marks on the table, I would think that adding other managers in the table would be redundant. Furthermore, on all of wiki's national football team, whenever they had a manager statistic section, all of the data were listed down in figures and none of them had any blanks or "?".

That said, I would love to hear all your opinions on this and see if we should just leave the thing as a single statistic of Bernd Stange or adding past statistics of our managers together with some figures which might be inaccurate? Either that or we should remove the whole section of Coach Manager Statistic away. Yienshawn (talk) 20:19, 28 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Yienshawn, thanks for starting the discussion. As you notice from the previous thread, I'd offered to shift the rest of the table to a Userspace page if it was deemed unnecessary - I think there is room for it on Wikipedia. I am planning to look through RSSSF to track the recent coaches' records, though information about the older coaches will be tougher to gather. Let us get as much as we can.
Let's keep this going, guys.Icedwater (talk) 13:27, 30 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
bump. Anyone interested in helping to update Singapore coach statistics? Icedwater (talk) 13:47, 28 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

U23 Singapore National Team[edit]

It was brought to my attention that the wiki link of our U23 team on this Singapore national football team wiki page brings me to Courts Young Lions, the nation's U23 team should not be confused with the Courts Young Lions. Courts Young Lions participated in the S. League while the nation's U23 team had players called up from different teams to form into a squad for competition, for eg. SEA Games. Also, Courts Young Lions wiki page was also wrongly classified as the National under-23 football teams of Asia (AFC).

As such, I would think that someone should open a new wiki page for the nation's U23 team. They should instead be referred to the SEA Games squad and also the friendly squad coach has picked because not all of the players are from Courts Young Lions. For eg, goalscorer, Safuwan Baharudin from the Singapore U23 match against Philippines U23 on 13 June 2013.

Hey, nothing stopping you pal. Druryfire (talk) 19:25, 13 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Have did it! Singapore national under-23 football team! I do however need more help from the community to work on that page. Yienshawn (talk) 11:57, 14 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
What help do you require? Druryfire (talk) 11:58, 14 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps someone with more information of the team, like recent stats and the list of players. Yienshawn (talk) 14:43, 16 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Malek Awab[edit]

Malek Awab has 123 caps?

I would like to see referencing for that

It would be a nice long-term excavation. Worth tracking down the other legends' caps also. But it's quite suspicious, as during that period we weren't really involved in too many 'A' tournaments... off the top of my head. Icedwater (talk) 11:22, 12 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Rewriting the article[edit]

I propose the article be rewritten. I find it to be too cluttered with some unimportant information. We should use shorter, yet easily understandable paragraphs instead. Lpjz290 (talk) 07:13, 4 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Which information do you consider to be unimportant? Icedwater (talk) 21:37, 14 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
For starters, all the U-23/youth related info, including tournament records when the tournament changed to U-23. A Singapore U-23 article should be created for that. Perhaps even the "backroom staff" isn't really important. And just to add, according to RSSSF, Aide Iskandar is Singapore's most capped player with 121 caps not Malik Awab. Banana Fingers (talk) 13:01, 4 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Past coaches' track records[edit]

Friendly results included? I think it would be possible to fill up the table even more to compare those past coaches' performance more accurately. Icedwater (talk) 21:21, 14 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This is something i'm looking to work on, view this article; 2010 Bahrain national football team results. I'm looking to do something similiar for all national teams. So their will be season articles to show what the coaches achieved, but i think this page should be kept to a minimum and just show a basic record. Druryfire (talk) 21:28, 14 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Err shouldn't the coaches' record be better put on their respectively pages instead of having it fragmented everywhere? Transaction Go (talk) 04:18, 15 March 2010 (UTC

Erm no, most people aren't bothered about their record with other teams, they just care about that particular nation. Besides, not all coaches have a wiki page to be viewed. Druryfire (talk) 12:23, 15 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Who are you or anyone else to decide/say what most people care about? Quite frankly that is just original research. Besides not all teams have wiki "season"(national teams don't have seasons per se but thats another thing all together)/yearly articles dating back to their genesis in which case it would be best to put it on the main page (but I also agree that it should be a basic record if any at all so perhaps even a new (sub)page all together). The point is to concentrate the info not fragment them and having the reader go to hundreds of pages. On coaches wiki pages you can have a section devoted to the international team in full detail just like (capped) players wiki articles do. And in that example you gave the manager section is redundant. Assuming the coach is the coach for the whole year which is mostly the case you will just be repeating the teams' yearly record above of how many games/wins/draws ect when a simple line in the article or infoxbox stating said coach oversaw the entire year would suffice. Transaction Go (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 04:36, 16 March 2010 (UTC).[reply]

I understand what you mean, but how personally, I'm interested in the national teams, not the coaches. I couldn't care less which other club teams for example 'said' coach did coach. Is it then fair for me to update 'said' coaches record for the national team and leave everything else blank because I don't have an interest? If it's done on the country page, then it shows the hostory of the coaches for that country and people can see what the records are, what you are saying is that they all have to go to other 'Manager' pages to view the detail. With lots of coaches, it would be hard to do. Season articles show what happened that year and can be broken down. Currently, this page is a mess because there is too much information thrown at the reader. If it was broken down and linked elsewhere, then they can get to the detail they want much quicker. It's only a mouse click to a new page. And I must admit, i've never read half the stuff on this page because it's all cluttered, but when do you get to the point where you don't need half the stuff on here such as 2004 AFF Suzuki Cup article, this should be moved to a 2004 in Singapore football page in my opinion. Anyway, good to get your idea, as not many other people seem to want to generate any. Druryfire (talk) 13:34, 16 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

There is nothing "fair or unfair" about selective editing/updating within articles. That is a keystone of Wikipedia in that everyone contributes bits and pieces towards a greater whole. Besides if you reread my posts properly I am not necessary advocating for moving detailed coaches record on the coaches' pages but as an alternative to putting it on the season articles. Yes while there are alot of coaches pages but there are heaps more season articles (whether they exist or not). For example the current coach has been in charge for 8 years since 2003 so that means you would have to go to 8 pages (SNFT in 2003, 2004 ... 2010) to get this broken down details. If you want to do this for all coaches then you have have almost 60 pages (SNFT in 1953, 1954, ... 2010) since Singapore has been playing for almost 60 years and 60 years of coaches. Like I said above that I also agree that the main page should be a basic record if any at all and that perhaps even a new (sub)page for detailed coaches (eg Singapore NFT coaches record or just records) would be better. Like I said above the point is to concentrate the info not fragment them. Transaction Go (talk) 10:18, 19 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Whoops, looks like I had a bout of déja vu... I spent some time putting this stuff together that was debated three years ago. Anyway, if there are objections I will make another page in my userspace with the same data until it is collected together. Icedwater (talk) 16:21, 28 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Late to the party but I've put up a discussion over at WP:FOOTY. Do share your views if you wish to. I may remove Raddy's stats/restore friendlies for Stange pending the consensus of the discussion. LRD NO (talk) 09:56, 25 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Seems the consensus is that most sources rely on all matches, competitive or otherwise. There is a valid point on friendlies contributing to FIFA rankings too. I have reverted the stats to include all matches but left a footnote on Avramovic regarding his competitive stats. LRD NO (talk) 02:14, 26 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The sentence at the last paragraph "Over the years, Singapore has included several naturalised citizens in its team such as Fahrudin Mustafić from Yugoslavia, Daniel Bennett from England, Shi Jiayi and Qiu Li from China." is several years out-of-date, and these footballers haven't been part of the national team for years, some even as far back to 2012. They have also all retired from football in general. I suggest removing it as it does not really reflect the national team in its current interpretation as well as the last half-decade. 120.137.242.97 (talk) 18:45, 22 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Not done for now: please establish a consensus for this alteration before using the {{edit semi-protected}} template. It seems that over the years, Singapore has included several naturalised citizens in its team. Just because it happened in the past does not mean we shouldn't mention it. Parts of this page (especially History) is very messy and long (Wikipedia:Proseline). It's quite confusing to follow. A summarization and merging of various paragraphs would go a long way, in my opinion.

I also note that the "2012 AFF Championship champion second-leg finals starting line-up." image as being inaccurate. Ikhsan Fandi, Jonathan Tan, Emmeric Ong, Zulfahmi Arifin, Khairul Nizam, Irfan Fandi and more did not play and were not in the squad (See 07:00) at the time. It is unclear why an entirely wrong and different squad is being reflected when it is citing the same YouTube link. Tonhambur (talk) 19:35, 1 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 19:46, 1 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
