I really think the following is just far too trivial to include in this article:

The book appears on Jack Shepard's bookshelf on the Lost episode "A Tale of Two Cities".

The title "Skinny Dip" was suggested to Carl Hiaasen by his friend, singer/songwriter Warren Zevon. Zevon died before the book was finished, and it is dedicated to his memory.
Joey's parents, who owned a casino resort in Reno, Nevada, named their children after stage performers - Joey Heatherton and Corbett Monica.

Ottis Elwood Toole[edit]

Tool's name is Earl Edward O'Toole and is described to be almost exactly like Ottis Toole, the mass murder accused of killing Adam Walsh, the son of TV's "America's Most Wanted" Jon Walsh. The names, Ottis Elwood Toole and Earl Edward O'Toole AKA "Tool", (Toole? anyone?), and the description are close enough to where someone could consider the character was based on Ottis.
