This article needs to be upgraded[edit]

This project's quality/importance scale needs to be upgraded. Dont know who exactly does this things, but a lot of things have changed in this arcitle since it was rated as start-class and mid-importance.Ratipok (talk) 17:27, 17 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Koman Coulibaly[edit]

A few sentences about how slovenia benefitted from the controversial call by Koman Coulibaly should be included in the section about the 2010 World Cup. Right now all that is included is table of the standings. Based on precedent from other articles ( see Colombia ), notable events from the world cup are included. The columbian page includes the story about Escobar's own goal. It makes sense to include something about Coulibaly in the page because he is a big part in why slovenia got a draw in the 2nd match against USA. If someone who didn't remember the game comes to this article and sees that Slovenia has 4 points in the group stage already, they would instantly wonder how they managed to get a draw against the USA. Their curiosity would be answered immediately if the explanation about Coulibaly is in there. Further, it is the most notable event for the slovenian football team. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dfourni (talkcontribs) 23:48, 19 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The situation is seen as controversial as the US player hit the ball in the net even though the wistle of the main referee was heard clearly almost at the same time the freekick and the cross to the box was taken. About two seconds later the ball was kicked in the goal. If the player would stop playing when the game was stoped and wouldn't kicked the ball into the net there would be no 'controversy'. On columbian page the Escobar's own goal is mentioned because that costed him his life as he was killed due to that goal.Ratipok (talk) 15:37, 23 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

1921 match[edit]

Is there any information about the June 23, 1921, match against France? I am most interested in the line-ups. The only information I found was at NZS. I´ll try to see if there is any mention of the match in the Politika archives.

Also, I used one website which had digitalised the Slovenian newspappers from the pre-WWII period and it was possible to get match reports of the Yugoslav League and the Ljubljana Subassociation leagues. I was just going to see if I could get any info from the match agaist France in them (was certainly included in most daily´s of June 24, 1921, but I see the links are now gone (exemple). Does anyone know where those newspappers are now? FkpCascais (talk) 15:21, 2 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

First match[edit]

In World Football Elo Ratings there is counted a match against Croatia on 19 June 1991. Was this match official? Svartner (talk) 23:51, 21 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

It cannot be, not only both Slovenia and Croatia joined FIFA only in 1992, but when the match took place the countries were not even independent yet (both countries decalered independence one week after the match, on 25th June 1991), so it cannot be official by default. And this website doesnt have any reliability, its just some fan-made rankings that are based on the chess system. Snowflake91 (talk) 09:28, 22 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Reviewer: Harper J. Cole (talk · contribs) 09:31, 16 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I'll take on this review, as part of the July 2021 Backlog Drive.--Harper J. Cole (talk) 09:31, 16 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Lead[edit]

  • [It competes in the three major professional tournaments:] I'd clarify, "It competes in the three major professional tournaments available to European nations", as there are other major tournaments they can't play in (Copa America etc).
  • [one year after the country gained independence from Yugoslavia] Wikilink "independence from Yugoslavia" to Breakup of Yugoslavia

Origins and pre-independence years (1921–1991)[edit]

  • [One of the guests of the match] --> "One of the guests at the match"
  • [the reigning World Cup finalists] You have to win a competition to be considered reigning. I'd suggest "recent World Cup finalists", with a wikilink to the 1994 World Cup.
  • [In the group with] --> "In a group with"

UEFA Euro 2000 campaign[edit]

  • [which Slovenia won 2–1] ..."after going a goal behind"
  • [At the UEFA Euro 2000] --> "At UEFA Euro 2000"
  • For consistency, either include the group table both here and for the 2002 world cup, or else have it for neither of them.

2002 FIFA World Cup campaign[edit]

  • [The team won the first game 2–1] --> "They came from a goal down to win the first game 2–1, ..."
  • [and the first ever World Cup] --> "and first ever World Cup"
  • [losing the previous game] --> "having lost the previous game"
  • [15 minutes before the full-time] --> "15 minutes before full-time"

Decline (2003–2007)[edit]

  • [the best goalscorer of the whole UEFA qualifications] --> "the top goalscorer of the whole UEFA qualification tournament"
  • [Slovenia became the only team to beat the eventual world champions] Wikilink "eventual world champions" to 2006 FIFA World Cup Final.
  • [Slovenia then won only one point in both games] This could mean that they won a point in each game - could you specify that it was one point in total from the two games?
  • [scoring a decisive away goal] Here "decisive" isn't quite right, as there was still lots of work to do to win on away goals. I'd suggest "crucial" instead.
  • [Slovenia achieved the highest ever ranking at the FIFA World Rankings] --> "Slovenia achieved their highest ever position in the FIFA World Rankings"

Katanec's second spell and management changes (2011–2018)[edit]

[before winning four consecutive games for the final third place in the group] --> "before winning four consecutive games to finish third in the group"

  • [In the qualifiers for the UEFA Euro 2016] --> "In the qualifiers for UEFA Euro 2016"
  • [came close to directly qualify] -->"came close to directly qualifying"
  • [the team lost decisive game away at Switzerland] --> "the team lost a decisive game away at Switzerland"
  • [He became the manager with the shortest tenure in history] --> "He became the manager with the shortest tenure in Slovenian history"

Nickname and mascot[edit]

  • [Slovenia received the official mascot] --> "Slovenia received an official mascot"

Kits and colours[edit]

  • [abstract shape of the mountain] --> "abstract shape of a mountain"
  • [First home kit after the independence, used until 1993] --> "First home kit after independence, used until 1993"

Rivalries[edit]

  • [the qualifying playoffs for the UEFA Euro 2004] --> "the qualifying playoffs for UEFA Euro 2004"

Home stadium[edit]

  • [The final trainings] --> "The final training sessions"

Management[edit]

  • [Katanec was firstly appointed in 1998] --> "Katanec was first appointed in 1998"
  • [for using a high-pressing tactics] --> "for using a high-pressing tactic" or "for using high-pressing tactics"

Conclusion[edit]

  • Good work on this article. I can't read Slovenian, but the citations look fine to me. I'll await your responses on the above.--Harper J. Cole (talk) 17:03, 16 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hey there, thanks for the review, I've fixed all of the above I believe - just one thing, you said to link NK Olimpija in "Kits and colours" section - wont this be an overlinking, since its already linked above in the Nickname section? Snowflake91 (talk) 18:23, 16 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Looking good! You're right about the overlinking, I'd missed that earlier usage. I'll promote the article to GA status. Thanks for the interesting read,--Harper J. Cole (talk) 20:22, 16 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

"fb|SVN" template[edit]

All FIFA national team pages use the "fb|XXX" template, why not here? PNwood213 (talk) 18:17, 9 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Because its a redirect, "{{fb|SVN}}" adds a link to Slovenia national football team, so why would use a template instead of simply "{{flagicon|SVN}} Slovenia" as the outcome is exactly the same? Snowflake91 (talk) 18:32, 9 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I agree, it is the same but just thinking it is better to keep all pages the samePNwood213 (talk) 19:29, 9 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
if good for 1 team page should be good for all team pages???Tomrtn (talk) 02:27, 11 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
