I my opinion, the "explanation" on the article that the verb "snarfing" comes from one or two animated characters named "snarf" is utter nonsense. Since the beginning of the 80s, Windowing systems from Bell Labs - Blit (computer terminal) and later plan 9, used the terms "snarf and paste" instead of what today is more usually called "copy and paste". I.e., to copy data from another process. I don't know where this term came from - possibly it came from an earlier (1960s) slang for "eating", i.e., the "snarf" operation would "eat" the data from another process.
