Importance of topic[edit]

Whoever slapped the "importance" tag on failed to explain themselves.

I can only guess what sort of info would convince them that this topic is or isn't important.

According to this MSDS, is "hazardous in case of skin contact (irritant), of inhalation," its carcinogenic, mutagenic, teratogenic effects, developmental toxicity have not yet been adequately researched. Cholerashot 22:44, 12 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Important, you know, like, useful or interesting? Many chemicals are bad for you if you touch them or breathe them in; that doesn't make it special. Is it an important pollutant? A waste product of some industrial process, perhaps? All I want is a reason why anyone would care about this substance. Is that so much to ask? —Keenan Pepper 03:20, 14 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

A look at the history suggests that STMP is related to sodium tripolyphosphate... not a chemist myself, although the formulae look similar. If that's so, perhaps the similarity could be expanded on. Also, the MSDS data could be used to expand the article - could somebody other than me look at it and maybe do so? And isn't there an "infobox" template or somesuch for chemicals - that could be filled out too - unfortunately I have enough trouble simply making links to be comfortable trying something that advanced.
