Reusing material[edit]

"The mysterious events could be linked to the testing of Cumbrian built weapons at the Woomera Test Range in South Australia."

These words were used to refer to a paranormal encounter by Sir Ed Payne on an episode of the ITV series Extreme Ghosts Stories, and it is now regarded by paranormal enthusiasts as somewhat of a classic phrase. I don't think that the fact that some paranormal enthusiasts regard a certain set of three quite common words as "somewhat of a classic phrase" means that you can assert copyright over a phrase like "could be linked". Reddit debunking[edit]

The "spaceman" has been shown, by a simple photoshop filter that anyone can perform, to be the same person appearing in another photo of the set - a woman wearing a light blue, sleeveless dress, and apparently the mother of the little girl. Reddit doesn't qualify as a reliable source though, does it? And also, this would count as original research... right? I'm not an editor. A number of reddit visitors have been editing the page, poorly, and their edits have been undone. What's the protocol to follow here?190.31.227.15 (talk) 04:16, 10 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Is there any alternative? I mean no reputable sources in the traditional sense are ever going to do an article about it being debunked on reddit. What if we sourced the method for doing the photoshop filter and then posted a user created image? What you're proposing is unfortunately prohibited by the encyclopedia's original research policy. Your best bet is probably to reference the reddit discussion in a note to several journalists or media outlets. Slate.com, Huffington Post, Salon.com, etc. or perhaps an established debunker such as randi.org or csicop.org. If they publish a story regarding analysis of the Solway Firth Spaceman images, we can then include it in the article. - LuckyLouie (talk) 19:46, 23 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I was reading the redditor's post and when providing the other photograph it is obvious that is the man's wife. It definitely needs to be added and sourced somehow, the whole story is obviously a hoax --Camilo Sánchez Talk to me 21:39, 1 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I saw Rationalwiki has a pretty good article on it but unfortunately wikis aren't considered a reliable source for Wikipedia.
