Uptempo?[edit]

Gershwin originally approached the song as an uptempo jazz tune, but his brother Ira suggested that it might work much better as a ballad

This is very interesting, as when I hear it performed as a ballad, the first thing I think is, this would sound much better uptempo. Do any artists perform it uptempo? I'm not really convinced the ballad idea was the best one... :) Viriditas (talk) 00:44, 11 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

There's a YouTube video of Gershwin playing it; it's quasi ragtime and not a ballad, pretty cool Adamilo (talk) 02:36, 14 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Please note that WP:SONGCOVER applies to this article. This is a great song and there are clearly very notable versions of this piece performed by many artists. However, having a laundry list of folks who recorded it without indicating how the recording (or appearance in a movie) was significant is not in line with Wikipedia:WikiProject Songs guidelines or general editing principles.
