references[edit]

I have removed a couple of references from this article. One does not support the statements it was footnoted for. The other is a press release and offers no information about the phone, and does not substantiate any information provided in the article. Checking references and removing those that are irrelevant or incorrect is a part of verification, and works to improve articles such as this one. -- Mikeblas (talk) 02:14, 28 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have restored the snipped references. Each of these references substantiates statements in the article, as follows:
  1. Wireless News reference. This substantiates the fact that the phone was released in late 2004. To quote from the reference: "Sony Ericsson and Cingular Wireless have announced the availability of the Sony Ericsson Z500a mobile phone for Cingular's EDGE (Enhanced Data for Global Evolution) network. To kick off the release, the new clamshell handsets and Cingular service were distributed Dec. 17 to an audience of military families…"
  2. PC Magazine reference (main text). This substantiates the fact that although the phone has push-to-talk capability, it was not supported by the Cingular network at the time. To quote from the reference (8th paragraph): "Oddly, the Z500a also supports Nextel-style push-to-talk. But Cingular doesn't have a PTT network yet, making the function useless for now."
  3. PC Magazine reference (infobox). Rather than burden each line of the infobox with a reference, I have chosen to put all infobox references at the end of the infobox. This reference substantiates the facts, given in the infobox, that the phone supports EDGE ("The Z500a's best feature is its Class 10 EDGE modem...") and MP3 ringtones ("As for features, the Z500a supports MP3 ringtones...").

The first reference doesn't say when the phone was released. It's PR about a release event, which might have (or might not have) been before or after the release. I've again removed it. What the article needs is a reference that shows us when the phone was released, not when various events surrounding the release of the phone occurred. I rewrote the text under the second reference, which had made a claim about the original design of the phone. The reference now matches the text, since the reference has no information about the design process the product has gone through. -- Mikeblas (talk) 17:00, 3 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
