When I came across the word sorei I noticed that the Japanese Wikipedia had an entry for it, but the Engish wikipedia lacked one. It seemed an easy solution to simply translate the Japanese version, but unfortunately the Japanese article had no references at all. After consideration I decided however that it really needed some references. Also the Japanese article contained a controversial opinion without any comment on that. Therefore I rewrote the article entirely, leaving out material for which I could not find references. For the assertion by Yanagita Kunio I only could find an English reference; it still needs a citation for the Japanese text where Yanagita made his claim, using the word sorei (which is not mentioned by e.g. Bernier, who uses the word spirit). Please feel free to try and substantiate other bits of the Japanese article (I put my translation in userspace: translation of 祖霊), e.g. the claim that the word or idea dates back to the Jomon period, or that it is used in its current meaning in either the Nihonshoki or Kojiki and where exactly. --Kornelis 22:22, 11 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
