The Audition[edit]

Stop deleting them from the 09 lineup. They announced they were coming back for it at their tour. Or at least give me a reason for why you keep deleting them. WeLsHy (talk) 10:36, 13 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The name[edit]

I'm not sure how many notable users watch this page, but anyway i'll try to begin a discussion. The name of this festival is definitely not "Australian Soundwave Festival". The article should be named one of two things, "Soundwave Festival (Australia)" or "Soundwave (Australian music festival)". Soundwave Festival is the name used for their web domain, though plain Soundwave (followed by the appropriate year) is used in promotional images (1, 2, 3, image at the top of the website). It appears that Soundwave 09 is used as an abbreviation, with Soundwave Festival 2009 being the 'real' name, to me anyway. Thoughts? k-i-a-c (hitmeup - the past) 10:10, 15 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Structure of Festival[edit]

Could someone explain how the festival is structured? Are there multiple stages? How long is a typical set? Total length of the event, etc.Turpie (talk) 23:42, 18 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You're probably best off to go to the website for Q&A, however I will answer your questions. There are now 6 stages, set in different areas of the venue. Bands play simultaneously, so you have to choose which stage you are going to be at for each time. Sets go from 30mins (early small acts), to 45mins (average acts), and a band like Iron Maiden will play for probably an hour and a half at the end of the night. Goes from midday to about 10pm. kiac. Excessive detail[edit]

The full line-up for each year's festival is an excessive amount of information to include in an encyclopedia article. See WP:IINFO. I think the lists should be removed. Kaldari (talk) 05:41, 18 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I would support removing the lineups from this page if they were put in their own article. I think the lineups are indeed notable, as they are the basis of any music festival, but perhaps on this page a bit too much.
The Big Day Out WIkipedia pages use one page for general festival information, and then a seperate page for year by year lineups. Perhaps this is a suitable method to follow for Soundwave. hellboy (talk) 04:16, 21 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Two and a half months later: Anyone think they could design a spin-off page that follows the template of the "Big Day Out lineups by year" page? I could try but anything beyond typing words seems to fail when done by me. Anoldtreeok (talk) 06:16, 31 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

What do you think about changing the way the lineup is listed to this? If yearly lineups were put on a separate page this would work better (it's for 2011):

There's little difference between the lineup in each city aside from local bands and cancellations/replacements, so it looks a little plain (especially compared to BDO). I think it's a better way of showing the lineup, though. Anoldtreeok (talk) 12:37, 15 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Cleanup[edit]

ok guys, I've done a massive cleanup of this page, what are your thoughts? I've changed how the lineup listings are displayed (I think this looks much better, I didn't like the scroll boxes), removed irrelevant or no longer relevant information (i.e. someone posting on Twitter months before the official announcement that they're playing Soundwave), fixed uniformity and logic in listings such as locations each year. I've still got to iron out a few other issues, but will continue tomorrow.

I preferred the scroll boxes personally. The way it is now seems to crowded to me. Apart from that, I think your changes are good. There was an unnecessary amount of detail (who cares what was said on twitter). So yeah, good work! (I put your comment in a new section; hope you don't mind). Anoldtreeok (talk) 11:53, 9 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I think that the way it is now is much easier to read. Good job! Sandshark23 (talk) 05:01, 12 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Flogging Molly not playing perth proof?[edit]

The only thing that suggests that Flogging Molly will not play Perth is the absence of Perth from their tour page on their website. For all we know this might be an error. Is there any other proof that Flogging molly isn't playing Perth? If not, the note should be removed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sandshark23 (talkcontribs) 08:21, 14 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

They're not in the Perth timetable either. Apart from that I can't find anything officially announcing that they won't play Perth (aside from people complaining on facebook about their absence from the timetable), but I think it's pretty clear they won't be playing. Anoldtreeok (talk) 00:45, 15 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, sweet. As soon as there is an announcement about it make sure to add a reference to it. Sandshark23 (talk) 01:31, 15 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Band Member Withdrawal - Cite Note?[edit]

I have recently seen a few tweets by AJ and others regarding Soundwave: Josh Freese of The Vandals is not going due to prior obligations, and The drummer for Six Feet Under injured himself during a dirt-bike mishap. I don't know if the whole band is not going or just the drummer for the latter, but do you reckon that when we get details they should be put as cite notes? Sandshark23 (talk) 03:55, 19 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I've added some info about the "drummers curse" for the 2013 festival — Preceding unsigned comment added by MGR9883 (talkcontribs) 06:05, 20 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

listing of In League at the 2013 Perth festival[edit]

there is no local slot on the Perth festival, In League are not actually playing and the reason for their absence is explained in the notes, so I don't see the point of listing a band who are not playing on the festival — Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.220.202.219 (talk) 15:55, 21 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Forced to Scratch?[edit]

Personally, I don't believe 'scratch' is an appropriate word to use to describe a band withdrawing from a festival. I am changing these words back to 'withdraw'. If there are any issues with this please reply back to me and we can sort it out. Cheers. Sandshark23 (talk) 09:30, 3 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thy Art is Murder note inclusion + Local Melbourne acts[edit]

I have 2 points to bring up at the moment...

1) Is the note about Thy Art Is Murder really necessary to include? Given that the situation was resolved I honestly don't think it needs to be there.
2) King Parrot and The Bennies technically weren't included on the line up, they were announced as local acts. For this reason, I don't think that having a note about them is necessary, I think it would be better if it was listed under Local Acts.

In the next day I will make modifications to the article based on my above points. If there are any concerns, let me know and we can sort it out. Cheers. Sandshark23 talkcontribs 11:39, 27 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, Just a suggestion (you guys who keep the page looking nice & tidy do well by the way!) But seeing as you mentioned the "Drummers curse" in 20113 (a large multitude of drummers pulling out) wouldn't it possibly make sense to note that 8 bands which were originally on the line up had puled out by the end of the festival? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 118.210.177.230 (talk) 15:50, 6 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

2015 MusicFeeds dripfeed announcement[edit]

so musicfeeds have said they will announce one band per day over the next five days, coldrain (stylised with lower case 'c' by the way, that's not a typo) are the first band to be announced and Ne Obliviscaris and Confession have already been confirmed. I think just add each band to the lineup list as they're announced, I don't think mentioning this fact is necessary, it won't be relevant this time next year. When I cleaned up this page a while ago, I was removing loads of outdated information such as this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by MGR9883 (talkcontribs) 12:51, 4 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

2016 Cancellation[edit]

So it was just announced that SW16 has been cancelled and it seems that this year's was the last installment. This article will thus require a lot of detail regarding this, I have quickly changed some information, but if anyone can update the article based on information printed here (http://musicfeeds.com.au/news/soundwave-2016-officially-cancelled/#/slide/1) That would be great.
