Rename[edit]

It is possible that this article should be renamed to SoCo.   — C M B J   04:01, 21 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • This article appears to be focused on the business district, rather than the street known as South Congress Avenue, so I would agree. Perhaps South Congress should also be changed to redirect to a section of the Congress Avenue article.EagleAg04 (talk) 03:54, 22 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'd suggest redirecting South Congress over to SoCo if a move is successful. South Congress in literary and verbal form usually refers to the district rather than the street itself.   — C M B J   05:59, 22 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I agree it should be renamed to SoCo as that is the name it is now referred to (like SoHo in New York City). I've attempted the move but was unable to. I'll ask an admin for help. --Kandomagoo (talk) 15:15, 6 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Redirect or rename?[edit]

I'm a native Austinite and a current resident of the South Congress area. I'd like to point out that most locals don't refer to South Congress as "SoCo". In fact, a lot of us in the neighborhood really dislike the nickname. Most of the people who refer to it as such are from out-of-town. In my opinion, "South Congress" should either redirect to Congress Avenue, or the article currently entitled "SoCo" should be retitled "South Congress".

Rename from 'SoCo' to 'South Congress'[edit]

Native Austinites overwhelmingly refer to the neighborhood as "South Congress" and the previous contributor citing "SoHo" in NYC is far off-base with respect to South Congress in Austin. Also, "SoCo" is a relatively popular nickname for Southern Comfort, a liquor brand. I recommend that this article be renamed to "South Congress" to reflect actual language usage for this neighborhood. —h3h (talk) 19:53, 10 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

SoCoSouth CongressRelisted. fuzzy510 (talk) 07:23, 3 March 2011 (UTC) Since the South CongressSoCo move, several here have pointed out that Austinites use the name "South Congress", not "SoCo". The original move was in error, and should be reverted. --beefyt (talk) 17:57, 11 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment shouldn't "SoCo" also redirect to the disambiguation page? 184.144.164.14 (talk) 21:15, 11 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support South Congress would be more of an official name. SoCo is a nickname, and although South Congress might be seemingly referent to the road, the area surrounds South Congress, so, it fits! TheAustinMan (talk) 03:16, 15 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
