Acrosome glycoprotein prevents fertilisation before leaving the testis? I don't think so.[edit]

"A glycoprotein coat over the acrosome prevents the sperm from fertilizing the egg prior to travelling through the male and female reproductive tracts." I think this line needs rewriting, the main factor stopping a sperm fertilising the egg before leaving the testis is obviously that there's no eggs in the testis, not that there's a glycoprotein preventing it.. I assume the line means there's a glycoprotein coat over the acrosome that keeps it dormant until capacitation so it doesn't release the acrosomal enzymes prematurely; but I haven't heard of this glycoprotein before, so I won't rewrite it myself.--KX36 (talk) 15:08, 12 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
