Granny's relation to Early and Lil

The third season of the series has made it expressly clear that Granny is Early and Lil's GRANDMOTHER, not their mother. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 130.39.0.28 (talk) 16:51, 9 September 2008 (UTC)

Rusty's history

I was under the impression from the first episode that Rusty dreamed the whole wolves thing, and possibly also dreamed going to live with his grandmother, because when we woke up he was back at his aunt's house. I guess this could be interpreted as Rusty only having dreamt the explosion but I think the first way makes more sense in context. nichie 02:06, 4 January 2007 (UTC)

quote

The quote about "skinning a buck, run a trout line" is taken from a Hank Williams Jr. song. I'm glad I know that.

This line doesn't sound right to me:

"Some fans have spoken out about recently-aired "Squidbillies" episodes, and have called it a major step down for the Aqua Teen Hunger Force creators in terms of animation, basic storyline quality, and even basic concept quality."

Especially without any citations/links for where "some fans" have said this, it sounds like editorial commentary to me. Anyone else think it should come out?

It was added by an anon with a history of vandalism in December of 2005, though admittedly the IP is shared by multiple users. That aside, I agree that it needs some sort of source. People have a habit of allowing that sort of statement to simply wash over them, especially when they agree with it. Even if it just said something like "Adult Swim forum members" (can't verify that particular citation myself, though), that would be fine; at least we'd know where to look. 72.200.136.66 08:14, 16 May 2006 (UTC)

a red neck view

I live in northen GA, if any one can say this is a bad show its me. and I here a lot of complaints that the show is lewd, poorly animated and soforth. but ill tell ya man, its dang funny. i see alot of my uncle mat in early. i dont know why people say its such a step down from ATHF. i think both shows are brilliant. if you yanks had ever hung out with southeners youd be laughin yer butts off at this show.

I also live in Northern GA, but I don't think is the place for discussing the show, unless its in terms of the information contained on WP. Try the tv.com forums for discussion. SlightlyMentholated 19:49, 12 June 2006 (UTC)
Actually there should be a section dealing with the popularity of this show and how it relates to southerners on here. Right now it's been said via "bumps" on AdultSwim (Oct 29, 2006) that the people down at Williams St. in Atlanta are very suprised at who is watching their show. They intended this show to be for a wide audience based on the premise of "making fun of rednecks is funny" but it's come to light that the biggest audience this show has is the "rednecks" they are trying to make fun of. This show is actually very topical, at times, to the southeast US and Georgia in general. One might even go as far to draw a parallel between this show and the popularity of Jeff Foxworthy who started in the south making jokes that many "southerners" not only found funny but could even relate to.
I agree, the first statement in this thread is indeed relevant. Insight on the demographics are quite useful in that they prompt further research into the social dynamic involved with this show's viewership. I for one didn't know it was popular in the South and will try to keep an eye out for ratings figures/reports that support that. --Patrick80639 17:52, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

edit, edit, edit

I did a bunch of editing today, mostly cutting out spoilers for jokes, moving the quotes over to the wikiquote page where they belong and changing the characters section to a cast section since it was just a list of names and not descriptions.

If no one has any objections I intend to move the "Trucker hats" section over there as well.Bdve 14:01, 25 June 2006 (UTC)

Nov. 06 Edit.

Added some major content to the Wiki. Sorry but 3 paragraphs barely a wiki make.

I also cleaned up the diction, but need some grammar checking on the work I've done. What remained of all the multiple edits wasn't much and it was horrible.

Also went and reverted some missing stuff back to the Wiki. Sorry guys but editing doesn't mean you come in here one by one trimming everything out and leaving useless references and links in the remainder of the text.

I added about 6 hours of work to the Story as Presented section to help give people who want to know about the show a feel for what takes place. If no one comes through and slashes and burns what I added I will follow up with a Social section explaining the underlying points put forth in the show which my additions are meant to be a setup for. I've just run out of time for now.

Also the Trucker Hat section was totally removed and I had trouble finding it, and with all the other stuff I did, I wasn't going digging back several months to recover it. If someone wants to add it back then do. But as I said before, references were left in the original article for it when it, itself, was gone.

Please all I ask is before anyone edits stuff out make sure you go back through and clean up anything that references something appearing later in the article that you delete. It's stupid to see things say (more below) and that section is totally gone.

Sketch Quinn

02.28.2007- Hello, I'm "Sketch" Quinn. I am the supervising animator on Squidbillies. The man listed as supervising animator on your site currently is Sean Quinn, a 60 year old Irishman. Also, The character "Plumber Bubba" is not named "Plumber 'Sketch' Bubba" and he was played by Dave Willis. I might also point out that the animators qualify as crew and not cast, but hey, who cares? Thank you. I'm reachable at me @ sketchquinn.com.

Thanks for the correction! Haven't had the time to verify or make a lot of the corrections, but was aware they were needed. Soon to get to the episode list as well.

trivia and hats sections

I would suggest that this sections along with some other stuff be mostly removed from this article and incorporated into their sorresponding episodes. Consider how the Simpsons episodes are done. the trivia and hats sections can easily go into the article for the episode they air in. It would help clean up this article, and help those articles to grow. --MJHankel 13:39, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

Sean Quinn

Hi, I'm Sean Quinn. I am the Supervising Animator on Squidbillies. Admittedly, I went by "Sketch" for the first couple of seasons of the Squidbillies; however, since getting engaged, I have decided to return to the name I was born with: Sean. I am dismayed to see that all my attempts to change my name back from "Sketch" to "Sean" have been reverted back to "Sketch" by the wikipedia moderators. I ask that you please change the name in the "Crew" section to my real name, Sean Quinn, in an expeditious fashion

This is Sean Quinn again. I have just returned to the squidbillies page and notice that it has not been updated with my married name. Please be advised...I wrote the note awhile ago, and I ask that you please address the changes I requested. Thank you.

I changed your credit to "Sean Quinn" -- or did you want your new last name? William Alan Ritch 21:23, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

Well, I don't want to sound dumb, but I just want to verify that it comes out October 2007. Or maybe I haven't noticed it before and it meant 06 and no one ever got around to changing it. I doubt it's the latter, but I just want to make sure. Indie -0 04:28, 14 July 2007 (UTC)

Early's Trucker Hats

Why do some of the hats on the list have references to the episode in which it appeared while some of them don't? And the non-existing links to episodes? Should these be removed? Indie -0 13:03, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

Character descriptions

It's cool people are filling these out, but I think they're adding way, way too much information for each character. The character descriptions should only give a personality outline and describe recurring character traits. Facts that are introduced for a single episode are probably best left to that episode's summary. For example, the fact Granny sees Jesus regularly is worth mentioning since it's a major plot point in multiple episodes. The fact that Krystal slept with .38 Special or the plot description for A Sober Sunday in the sheriff's section is really too long and out-of-place.Torc2 (talk) 00:54, 5 December 2007 (UTC)

I was coming to say the same thing. Since I have nothing better to do at the moment I'm going to trim them way down right now.«»bd(talk stalk) 01:22, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
Cool, excellent work! Dr. Bug is actually a minor recurring character. He's got speaking roles in two episodes and a non-speaking cameo in another - I might readd him later if you don't want to do it now. His relationship to the family is kind of sketchy - it's heavily implied in Family Trouble that he's Rusty's twin, but in Ashes to Ashes, Sluts to Dust Granny apologizes for flushing him down the toilet. He's also more Early's age than Rusty's. Torc2 (talk) 02:56, 5 December 2007 (UTC)

Although I have watched squidbillies numerous times, I don't get any clear indication that Granny is either Early's or Lil's mother. For instance, in Asses to Ashes, the store clerk says that the money is for your mothe- grandmoth- then trails off. The first doctor in that episode is also confused about their familial relationship. Can anyone cite an episode where this information is revealed, because I don't think it can be assumed that she is their mother. She could possibly be Early's grandmother or even great-grandmother. Special:Contributions/ D_Squared (talk) 07:03, 10 February 2008 (UTC)

Granny's section needs to be changed. As the new season has made clear, she is Early and Lil's grandmother not their mother. Special:Contributions/ D_Squared —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.65.94.155 (talk) 03:47, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

Cuylers as Working-Class Family vs. "living in abject poverty"

Various episodes of the show deal with working-class concerns such as:

  • Finding and keeping a job.
  • Educating the next generation.
  • Health care.
  • Substance abuse.
  • Making extra income through illicit means.
  • Dealing with law enforcement/criminal justice system.

A show about characters who lived in "abject poverty" would have exactly one plot: Characters would wake up in the morning and either die or search for food. Then they'd rest and repeat this cycle again. The Cuylers are certainly not rich, but they're not on the edge of death either. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.166.94.163 (talk) 18:15, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

I've left out the word "abject", but they're clearly poor, not working class.

*Finding and keeping a job.

Except they don't do it well, and it is never indicated what they actually make or how badly they handle their finances.

*Educating the next generation.

Through homeschooling, in places like wells and bathrooms.

*Health care.

Which they can't afford, but don't care.

*Substance abuse.

...and this is a sign that they're "working class" and not poor, how?

*Making extra income through illicit means.

Evidentially pretty bad at it too.

*Dealing with law enforcement/criminal justice system.

Which poor people never do?

What else...

  • They live in a rural location, in a barren. self-built house that is falling apart.
  • They eat mud for dinner. (And the occasional spent lottery ticket or truck engine.)
  • They commit arson fraud because they can't afford a $37 monthly land payment.
  • They live off Church donations.

The bottom line is it's not a docudrama. There are going to be lapses in reality, and the details of their finances aren't going to be accountant-verified accurate. Torc2 (talk) 19:12, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

another country boy

I don't know anything about TV ratings, but I was immediately attracted to the show BECAUSE I'm a Southerner and I could tell from the first episode that the show was made by Southerners. Whether they wanted to make fun of us with this show or not is not as important to me as the fact that is created by Southern people like us. When I heard Krystal tell Early in Episode 1 that she wouldn't let him touch her "front butt" I knew this show wasn't being written by the boys from New York or LA. The idioms and the attitudes expressed on this show are familiar and comfortable to many of us. I hope they don't mess the show up by trying to appeal to a bunch of teenagers in Ohio. I've enjoyed what I've seen so far and even if that doesn't continue, I will hold on to my memories of the past and cherish them (that's how we roll). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.166.94.163 (talk) 18:30, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

Rationale for a "Georgia References" section but no "Trucker Hats" section

Can someone 'splain this to me? Thanks. Sag6 (talk) 05:08, 25 February 2008 (UTC)

The Trucker Hats are in the wikiquote article.«»bd(talk stalk) 15:41, 25 February 2008 (UTC)
I'm aware of that. My question was not where the "Trucker Hats" section is, but rather how we can justify the inclusion of a logically similar section of "Georgia References" but not the "Trucker Hats" section. Sag6 (talk) 23:10, 25 February 2008 (UTC)
The list of trucker hats is essentially just a list of quotations. The list of Georgia references aren't quotations, and help establishes the relationship between the Cuylers and the north Georgia region. —Torc. (Talk.) 23:23, 25 February 2008 (UTC)
The connections to the regional culture (particular to Georgia, The South, squid, or hillbillies) made by Georgia references or what's on Early's hats are of equal stature. Each is a list that restates events that occurred in the episode. Thus, I recommend including both or killing both.Sag6 (talk) 00:07, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
The hats that specifically reference Georgia are already listed. —Torc. (Talk.) 00:11, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
There's no reason to include both if one exists in another place. That's like copying the episode list here and leaving up the episode list article.«»bd(talk stalk) 01:24, 26 February 2008 (UTC)

Character descriptions

I think it would be funnier if we included more information on the characters! For instance, I propose we should include the fact that Dan Halen has existed throughout time and is a total embodiment of evil. Also we should include the truth behind the Sheriff, which is the fact that he is harvested from a field of "Sheriff plants" and that this is the reason why even though he sustains many injuries and even dies in a couple of episodes...he always comes back to life. I tried adding some info on Dan Halen but my edit was undone very quickly afterwards. I just thought it would be funny to include some little funny tidbits in the character descriptions. Let me know what you think. Carl236 (talk) 18:52, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

The articles not here to be "funny," but both of those things are in there.«»bd(talk stalk) 19:18, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
Understood. Didn't see them the first time around. Carl236 (talk) 18:28, 17 May 2008 (UTC)

While there is no Dougal County in Georgia, there are several clues throughout several episodes that help pinpoint the area where this show takes place. On one occasion, Early mentions going "down to Ellijay", a phrase often used by those of us who live in the area from Blue Ridge, GA to Blairsville, GA. In addition the repeated appearances of highway GA 515 and in one episode a milage marker indicating that Atlanta is 109 miles away puts the epicenter of this show in the vicinity of Morganton, GA (population 284) which is a distance of 105 miles from Atlanta on GA 515 and is on the shore of the TVA's Blue Ridge Lake. On a side note, as a resident of the area, I take no offense to this hilarious show. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sparc77 (talkcontribs) 13:11, 7 December 2011 (UTC)

Dr. Bug

In the episode family trouble they find out that Rusty has a twin based on his blood and Dr. Bug flat out denies it. The obvious conclusion is that he is a twin but the Wikipedia article says he is Early's brother and not his son and he was also dropped with Rusty where he ended up being flushed. My main point is that shouldn't the article be changed. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Coyote sprit (talkcontribs) 12:31, 25 July 2008 (UTC)

Stuart Daniel Baker/Early Cuyler

Stuart Daniel Baker is the voice actor for Early. Says as much in the shows credits. Unknown Hinson is a persona of the actor/comedian Baker. According to Baker's own Wiki page "Baker has carefully cultivated his alter-ego. Much like Andy Kaufman's alter-ego, Tony Clifton, Unknown Hinson never breaks character in public and adamantly denies having any connection to Danny Baker."
