Sri Petaling (Formerly known as Bandar Baru Seri Petaling), is a suburb which was developed since 1981. Before the surburb was established, it used to be a rubber plantation land. It is located in Southen Kuala Lumpur which is part of Sungai Besi. In between mid 80's to the mid 90's, it was well known as the 'rubbish area' as there was a large garbage disposal land and often brings out a bad smell when people approach the entrance of Sri Petaling. The garbage disposal land is no more in use and it's not visible today as it was converted into a playground and carpark space due to the '98 Commonwealth Games.

Population in Sri Petaling was not high in the early years as it was really far from the city and isolated from everything else. The population grew in the late 80's when 2 passage ways to the next suburb(Salak Selatan aka Salak South & Taman Gembira aka Happy Garden)was open. The growth of population did not stop there as more and more development has been done over the dacade. In 1997, Kesas Highway was open and allowing people to travel to Subang area within 10 minutes. This Kesas Highway was one of the reason of rapid growth of population in Sri Petaling.

Housing area, one of the first fully developed and people moving in would be in the area of Jalan Wan Empok, Jalan Wan Empok 1 and Jalan Wan Empok 2. In the 80's these area mention used to be the centre of Sri Petaling. Houses those days were sold in the range of RM40,000.00 to RM60,000.00 and the value of the houses today are up to RM500,000.00 - RM700,000.00. The house which was known as the haunted house on 63, Jalan Wan Empok Dua, was actually a rumour. I've actually investigate and talk to the owner of the property. It is nothing particular about the house, just a bit run down and it is for sale.

I hope this is alright. I wasn't sure whether the large mosque in Sri Petaling city centre and the mosque Masjid Jamek, which was mentioned later in the original text, are different mosques or the same one. I have assumed them to be different, having looked at the Wikipedia article on Masjid Jamek, but perhaps someone could correct this if I am wrong. Richard asr (talk) 20:58, 12 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
