This reads like an Ignatius press release,..[edit]

...not an objective, dispassionate encyclopedia article. Not to mention, it's way too long. Who cares that the Brunswick room is richly paneled? And this: "That decision involved a complete re-roofing in slate, an extended re-working of the masonry, a rebuilding of the front porch and gutters, the building and installation of 493 windows, from 8 to 24’ in height,..." This is below the threshold of relevance. Kestudi (talk) 19:43, 23 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism[edit]

...is getting ridiculous.

What is this: "Juan Calduch is largely considerd to be the best thing to ever happen to the school. He is a genius. However, many students seem to agree that the school has never been the same since the shocking departes of Adaemola, Haben, Conor Brodrick, Aileen Soriano and Bummi."? I'm deleting it. If there is any merit to it, it needs to be explained much better. Aardhart 17:04, 19 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The school should give Saturday JUGs to vandals. Any school administrators reading? Aardhart 18:45, 8 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Block Editing?[edit]

Ignatians have been vandalising this page for a while... Maybe we should disable anonymous editing? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.217.8.37 (talk) 04:06, 19 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Faculty Degrees[edit]

Shouldn't it be Masters or Doctorates instead of MAs and PhDs. Don't MSs or EdDs count in the 90% statistic.

Changes to Overview paragraph one[edit]

I'm editing the reference to the school being a fire survivor because it was not in the burnt district, and thus is not a "survivor" as the Water Tower is. The Great Fire's southwestern border was DeKoven and Jefferson; the school is 1 block south and 1/2 mile west of that corner. See A.T. Andreas (1885), History of Chicago, Vol. 2, p. 714 (map of the west line of the fire). It is true, however, that the building is one of the few pre-1871 structures in Chicago, so the edit refers to this instead. Also, the building is not 10 blocks west of the lake, the school is ten blocks west of Madison. The Lake is about 400 East at Roosevelt. Because it is so far west, it's not exactly just south of the Loop either. The west side description I added matches the school's web site. Also, I put the picture under the paragraph to avoid breaking the paragraph text. Icebox93 15:53, 7 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Iggy[edit]

Frankly, I think the call for a citation for this is ridiculous. I have heard this used all of the time by people in Chicago. Iggy is a common nickname for Ignatius in all contexts. Does anyone else want to comment on this? Current/former students? Speciate is out of control once again. This type of colloquial language isn't going to be cited anywhere credible. Newspapers, magazines, etc...are going to use the formal name of the school. That doesn't, however, preclude the fact that the nickname is used all the time in daily language. This is a fact, that across Wikipedia articles, Speciate likes to ignore.

It wasn't so hard: http://www.ignatius.org/pdf-content/publication/Winter%2005-06%20Beat.pdf Speciate 18:09, 18 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Then put the source in instead of screwing up the page with your ridiculousness.

My attempts are always to make Wikipedia more encyclopedic. The fact that some people questioned the inclusion of Iggy at the time should have prompted you to find the source. My adding of a fact tag was an attempt to get someone to find a source. You chose to remove the fact tag and call me names rather than do the research. Speciate 22:32, 19 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The Fenwick "inclusion"[edit]

Smoeone is adding information (cited information) about Fenwick High School, and how their success (verifiable) is putting pressue on tihs school. That is original research, and is a violation of WP:OR and WP:NOPV. Put it on the Fenwick article, not here. Even if it is true nad cited, it doesn't belong here any more than if it were added to the article on Finland. LonelyBeacon (talk) 02:58, 17 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

primary rival is fenwick?!?![edit]

i graduated from ignatius in '05 and still have family there. i also played basketball all 4 years i was there, and fenwick is NOT our primary rival. loyola is definitely our #1 rival, and it is easy to tell for anyone associated with the school. the basketball game against loyola is always the best attended game of the year and is played at loyola university because of the higher capacity (the ignatius/fenwick game is at the home team's gym). ignatius and loyola play for the jesuit cup (there is a physical trophy) and there are always t-shirts made up for the game. the series is way more storied than any ignatius-fenwick series. whoever wrote that our primary rival is fenwick must be from the western suburbs and have friends who go to fenwick, making that rivalry personal. i know that loyola probably considers new trier or some other suburban school their biggest rival and fenwick might consider ignatius theirs, but ignatius' biggest rival is definitely loyola. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.254.251.122 (talk) 18:40, 23 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Without any doubt Iggy's biggest rival is Fenwick overall. Every school in Chicago tries to have some minor rivalry with Chicago's two heavy hitter prep schools, Ignatius and Fenwick. St. Patrick's tries to be a rival with Fenwick in waterpolo because they want to topple the Friar dominance in water sports. Loyoloa even had a rivalry with Fenwick in hockey because both are power houses in that sport. Loyola tries to compete with iggy as a Jesuit school, both Loyola and Iggy have the same colors, the same Ramblers overtones etc. Then there is Oak Park River Forrest High School, a public school with their rediculous 23 act average who wants to believe that they are on par with Fenwicks 27 and nationally top-ranked academic teams. None of these other schools are on par with Iggy and Fenwick. Ignatius and Fenwick are rivals with a capital "R". People who are in league to send their child to Ignatius will only loose sleep over if they should send their child to Fenwick instead. Ask anyone which prep school is the best in Chicago- they will never say just one- the answer is always Fenwick and Ignatius. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.141.156.154 (talk) 16:06, 27 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I think the last two comments prove that a "top" rivalry is more an opinion than an established fact. Trying to establish one vs. the other in this article, unless it can somehow be supported by a reference (and I don't think it can), will be impossible. True, as Jesuit schools, one can support the idea of Loyola and St. Ignatius being rivals. True, drawing from the same geographic area, Fenwick would be a more geographic rival. However, rivalries must be two sided, they cannot be unilateral. Does Fenwick consider St. Ignatius a top rival? Does Loyola? My guess is that Loyola considers New Trier their top rival, and that Fenwick is more interested in beating up on OPRF. St. Ignatius may not have a true two-sided rival. LonelyBeacon (talk) 17:05, 27 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
      • Fenwick and Ignatius ARE the two major rivals, but the issue now is that Ignatius is ashamed at their athletic performance in comparison to Fenwick's, and instead, some currently at Iggy are trying to hopelessly redirect their rivalry towards someone that they feel they can actually beat. The guy above is talking just about Loyola's and Ignatius' basketball cup, and nothing more, their Jesuit conterpart. Fenwick and Ignatius are the traditional main rivals across the board, but to som lately, even from Fenwick's perspective, it will be a given that Fenwick will smash Ignatius athletically. Fenwick is the #1 ranked athletic program in the state of Illinois, and everyone now who feel they have a chance at killing that standing is after Fenwick, and of course, schools with a better athletic program than that of Ignatius provide more competition to Fenwick at the moment- but that doesn't change what was the true rivalry in Chicago Prep schools, Fenwck and Iggy- it is just that Iggy's athletics are so pathetic right now that the rivalry can't really carry much weight lately, untill Iggy steps up, which seem more like they are running to take cover, the rivalry may seem less apparent to some- it is not very exciting lately to see Fenwick the Lion, walk all over Iggy the pussycat. Morover, every school has a minor rivalry in certain aspects- Even Phillips Andover has a minor track rivalry with Andover High School, but that does not change their main rival being Exeter. That 2005 grad of Iggy doesn't know what he is talking about.Chiboyers (talk) 19:13, 27 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Trivia section[edit]

It seems that the trivia section is largely about the architecture and design of the buildings. It could easily be integrated into a new section on that topic. Besides which, the buildings are pretty significant historically, being pre-Great Fire etc. I'll get on it as soon as I find a good source, but any help would be appreciated. Assessment[edit]

I am re-evaluating this article, provisionally as "C" class, and as having "Mid" importance in the Wikischools project. The article is far too lacking in references, and is too disorganized for a "B" rating, which it had. I am provisionally upgrading its importance to "Mid", though it may warrant "High" given its history, landmark status, and a few of its notable alumni. This assessment should be reviewed by a more experienced school editor to confirm or change this conclusion. LonelyBeacon (talk) 04:57, 14 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I confirm the existing C-class rating, there are too many gaps in references alone to justify B-class at this time. The history, landmark status, and alumni push the article close to High-importance. Overall, I think the alumni of an important politician are enough to push it over enough to give High-importance. Camaron · Christopher · talk 11:55, 16 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
