Stainforth Bridge v Knight Stainforth Bridge[edit]

@The joy of all things: Regarding this bridge also being known as "Knight Stainforth bridge" it actually seems like these are 2 different bridges, "Stainforth Bridge" listing 1132318 is at SD8215667306 carrying Main Road over it seems Stainforth Beck while "Knight Stainforth Bridge" listing 1166894 is at SD8178067249 to the west appears to carry the River Ribble. Hi Crouch, Swale; well, almost all of the cites refer to it as Stainforth Bridge, which is why I went with that. The village of Knight Stainforth became known as Little Stainforth, and the bridge was just shortened to Stainforth Bridge. I imagine that Historic England needed a disambiguator, but the bridge over the Ribble is far more famous than the one in the village. Mapping from 1888-1913 lists them both as Stainforth Bridge.^[1] If you want to change it, then I won't cry about it, but if you type in Stainforth Bridge, apart from another confusing one at Stainforth near Doncaster, and the one in the village, the rest point to the packhorse bridge over the Ribble. I would suggest a disambiguator if an article gets written about the other two, but again, consult any book about the Yorkshire Dales, and Stainforth Bridge is listed as the one over the Ribble. @The joy of all things: OK, I see, this is about the Ribble one only not the Stainforth Beck one, I just though this was about the Stainforth Beck one but accidentally had content also for the Ribble one so everything's fine. Crouch, Swale (talk) 21:24, 15 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Packhorse bridge?[edit]

It isn't a packhorse bridge. The key attribute of a packhorse bridge is that it was built solely for the use of packhorses. Packhorses could, of course, use bridges built for other traffic, but by definition they weren't packhorse bridges. A packhorse bridge is narrow with low parapets and an almost level roadway.
