Breakthrough Single[edit]

Elevator Love Letter was released first with some popularity.

in fact, it could be argued that "Elevator Love Letter" is easily their best known and loved song. This should be noted, and I'll do so if someone hasn't in the near future.

Discography[edit]

So I've gone through and fixed the discography so it flows a little bit, but there are still a few problems:

There are a lot of blanks to fill, including producers, etc.
Some of the Cover art is bad quality - feel free to replace.
The album "Stars Are Out Tonight" is completely missing. I can't find a single bit of information on it, just the cover art on www.legrandmagistery.com

With regard to "The Stars Are Out Tonight" - the website notes the EP is on vinyl only, and the cover art is highly similar to the "A Lot of Little Lies for the Sake of One Big Truth" EP that they have available on iTunes. It looks like they subbed two of the tracks though - live versions of "On Peak Hill" and "Going, Going, Gone" instead of "This Charming Man" and "My Radio (AM Mix)" on the vinyl - seems like the missing album is a Canada-only release that ended up being revised for the U.S. market buzz, leading to the Nightsongs LP... - JYS, 1 Sept 06 07:56 UTC

Discrepancy: The article mentions "their 2004 album Set Yourself on Fire", while the discography lists Set Yourself on Fire (2005). I'm not well-versed enough in this stuff to know where to look for an authoritative source. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 130.15.164.62 (talk • contribs)

Fixed. Thanks for making me aware. The confusion came about due to a difference in release dates in Canada and the US. Whenever possible, I believe we go for the earliest release dates. I've gone through adding all the singles that were missing to the list, and adjusted every release to reflect the record label who released it. While City Slang releases all their new records in Europe, Arts & Crafts released them first. I made one special note where Nightsongs was released on an alternate format (Vinyl LP) by a different label with bonus tracks. I don't really know how to develop new pages for each release, but if somebody feels more comfortable creating those kinds of pages and would like to get us started, I'd be happy to continue contributing. - 60watt (talk • contribs)

I created these pages with the bare minimum amount of information. You seem to know your Stars, so go ahead and add as much information as you can. Make sure that you specifically add information that makes each single special — that way we're sure to pass WP's Notability guidelines. Also, try to fill out those Single Infoboxes...like I said, I don't have too much information on these. I have since added the Reunion digital single that was available on 7digital and nowhere else from what I can tell...and I've scoured the internet and posted on the Stars forum only to be given no additional information regarding other releases. 60watt 21:56, 12 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

What about the album "Do You Trust Your Friends?", where friend-bands of Stars made remixes of the songs on "Set Yourself On Fire"? Indie rock -> Indie pop[edit]

If a distinction is made between Indie rock and Indie pop, I'd say Stars are closer to Indie pop.
-Their production/sound seems more Pop than normal Indie Rock
-AMG lists "Indie Pop" in their Styles and does not include "Indie Rock" (link)

Cover Art[edit]

There is an alternate cover art for the set yourself on fire album (topless female(?) wearing a pink balaclava, holding a pink molotov cocktail). Thanks! As you can see, I've filled it out. However, there are some difficulties I'm having, and I wanted to ask you before I changed the main article. I've been doing research by listening to interviews from old Morning Becomes Eclectic sets featuring Stars from 2000 and 2001 and found out interesting things about the band: Though all the members grew up in the same Toronto neighborhood, the band actually formed in New York before moving to Montreal. My problem is that I don't know how to cite audio broadcasts; there are no transcripts available because that's against that show's policy. Therefore, I haven't changed the opening paragraph (where it states the band was formed in Toronto) and won't until I can figure out a good tactic for it. Additionally, is it kosher to add lines to the Origins part of the infobox? The band is intrinsically Canadian, given as all the members are from Toronto and they've resided in Montreal since 2001. However, I filled out the factual New York City line under Origins. Perhaps I should add a second line underneath that for Montreal? DamionOWA 09:00, 21 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

For the second question: Yes, sometimes the info that you have won't fit nicely into the infobox you're given. Your job then is to make it fit while getting your point across.
