What happened[edit]

A lot of the original sculpture at the Expo was made of Staff (building material) , that was never intended to be permanent. I am not sure about this work, but MacMonnies fountain and the rest just sort of turned to mush. I'll try and find out. Carptrash (talk) 15:35, 31 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@AlmaBeta: Margaret French Cresson, DCF's daughter, in her book about her father, Journey Into Fame (pp. 170-172) gives a fairly detailed discussion on the creation of the work, and it is made of staff, of which she says, "sturdy enough to weather an outdoor exposure for a year or more without disintegrating."
