Scottish Parliament meeting in the Great Hall[edit]

Did anyone else hear about a proposal that the Scottish Parliament was to meet in the Great Hall? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.12.144.21 (talkcontribs) 21:17, 1 May 2007

No? Do you mean the Scottish Parliament, or the Parliament of Scotland?Edward Waverley 13:56, 29 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, hardly "mystery solved", but useful info, thanks for posting. Jonathan Oldenbuck (talk) 20:35, 23 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Pictures[edit]

Hi there. I recently visited Stirling Castle and made some pictures. I have already added two of them to the gallery, since there were no pictures of the Chapel Royal interior previously. I also considered replacing some pictures in the article with new ones but I wanted to ask you first. The first pictures are those from the article and the second ones those I want to replace them with. What do you think? Janfrie1988 (talk) 14:43, 16 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I do prefer the second Chapel Royal exterior picture, it articulates the building better, as something placed on falling ground, without sacrificing any detail in the first. It also a little bit sharper, (showing the slight traces of the external painted decoration in the window tympana). Unoquha (talk) 17:45, 16 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, replaced that one. Lets see if we get more opinions on the other ones. Janfrie1988 (talk) 19:06, 16 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
As the photographer of the first photo, I still think that the angle of my photo is far better than the one over here. Maltesedog (talk) 15:35, 11 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Some one should change pictures as suggested above, or use other pictures more recent than 2010.

Outer Defences[edit]

I have also uploaded the following picture but I am not completely sure if what is seen is indeed part of the Outer Defences that were built after the attempted Jacobite invasion of 1708. Can anyone help me out here? We could then add it to the article under Outer Defences. Janfrie1988 (talk) 19:41, 16 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Questions and comments[edit]

1. "Darnley was already estranged from the Queen and did not attend although he was resident at the castle."

Why was Darnley "estranged"?

2. "The keeper of the Castle, Alexander Erskine of Gogar was ejected by supporters of Regent Morton in April 1578, after his son was fatally wounded during a struggle at the gate.[43] The rebellious Earls of Mar and Angus seized the castle in 1584, but surrendered and fled to England when the King arrived with an army. They returned the following year, forcing the King to surrender, although they proclaimed their loyalty to him.[44]"

The Earls of Mar and Angus forced the king to surrender but they were loyal to him? It doesn't make sense. Please clarify.

3. I suggest to add a link to "Officer's Mess". I assume it should point to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mess.

4. The sentence "In the end a compromise was built, and was complete by 1714." needs revision.

5. "However, in 1689 these rooms were infilled to provide gun emplacements."

This sentence needs clarification. What do "infilled" and "emplacements" mean?

6. "Inside are five fireplaces, and large side windows lighting the dais end, where the king would be seated. It is 42 by 14.25 metres (137.8 by 46.8 ft) across."

What does "dais" mean?

7. "schote over the craig". An explanation is due here.

8. "Four of these have been completed with the last one due to be finished in 2013."

This should be updated.

9. The link "Castles in Great Britain and Ireland" has no reason for existing. The castles should be listed separately for Scotland, Wales, England and Ireland.
