Merge proposal[edit]

I have tagged this page (Thorgatstane Dunlop) for merger with Thurgartstone. They appear to both be about the same rock, but I have no idea what the name of the merged article should be. --Scott Davis ^Talk 07:59, 4 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have no objection but Thorgatstane Dunlop article has an extra section the carlin stone which isnt really related. So maybe one on the Thorgatstane, and one on Great Stones of Dunlop that includes a short segment on each stone.--Filll 16:20, 4 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Is there enough content to make two useful articles? The only three incoming links are from:

Dunlop (a disambig page)
Corsehill, Lainshaw, Robertland and Dunlop - link is from "See also", but there is a section about the stone further up, including a (currently red) link to Thugart stane
Rocking stone

Do the other stones belong in this article, another article, or should the other stones info be merged to Corsehill, Lainshaw, Robertland and Dunlop#The Thurgatstane or Ogrestane in exchange for taking most of the info for this stone out of that article (and changing the section header)? --Scott Davis ^Talk 07:58, 5 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think that things are at a formative stage and more links will come. For example, on the internet there is a huge interest in various kinds of stones and rituals associated with them. I have visited many of these sites to get information. People map them, catalog them, take pictures of them, hike to them, record legends about them etc. This has not yet become as prominent on Wikipedia as it has on the internet at large, but I think it will. This is especially true given interests in New Age religions and paganism and Wicca and legends and myths and druids and megalithic monuments. Take a look at this map of stone circles that has been compiled for example. So links will come as Wikipedia develops. I also think that there is enough information for two articles: A fairly long one about the Thurgatstone, combining information from the two at present, and a general article with a shorter piece about the Thurgatstone and the Carlin stone and eventually other similar stones in the area (which might be as big as all of the UK, I suppose).--Filll 13:42, 5 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have reorganized it a bit and added some more information about other rocks. I think there is a lot more that can be done. I plan to remove some of the information about the thorgatstane since it has a separate article, and do some consolidation.
