History[edit]

Having been opened in 1955, as a military training facility during the cold war era, Scona has been around much longer than many of the other schools in the Edmonton area. Due to the age of Scona, there are a few ghosts that are rumored to wander the halls and grounds of the school. Possibly the most notable ghost at Scona is a girl by the name of Emily. Emily used to be a student at Scona, and was very active in the drama program. During a play that Emily was participating in, a stage light fell from the house bar, it struck and killed her on the stage. Still to this day there are often problems with the house bar, and the stage elevator that Emily so often liked to ride.

This particular school did open in 1955, this being the newer building. The original Strathcona had opened in 1908 as stated in Establishment date, now known as "Old Scona" (OSA) reference: [[1]], noting the first paragraph.

School Ghost[edit]

I am asking users on this page not to remove the information about the ghost as it is an important 'tidbit' of information about student activities in the school. I would like to say as a current member of Strathcona's Technical Theater Crew I like to see any mention of the arts at scona as we have a vibrant and very successful arts program that should be lauded just as much as sports or academics! Scona being haunted is hardly a little myth spread around a high school. Strachcona is featured in "Ghost Stories of Alberta" written by Barbara Smith. Move[edit]

I've moved this from Strathcona Composite High School since the shorter form seems to be the more common usage. Even the school's page jsut uses "Strathcona High School" Meters (talk) 20:53, 4 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

2015 modernization project[edit]

I've removed the unsourced claim of a $455 million modernization project. I can't find a source for the actual amount but I doubt it was that much since that would have been about one-third of everything the province put into education facilities over a three-year period. I've added "$6.1 million" which is the cost listed on the website of the architecture group that assisted with the renos.

You are correct in stating that $455 million is too much... If you look at old google streetview you can see the old modernization sign up by the school that says the cost of all school capital investments was ~$550 million. - Vanstrat (talk) 19:08, 16 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
