George Martin v William Sargent[edit]

Hey all. I was reviewing the source material linked from the reference regarding the charges of slander by Martin against Sargent. The text states that Martin withdrew the second count and that the charge of witchcraft was affirmed by the court. When reading the source, though, I see the following:

Georg Martyn v. Willi. Sargent. Slander. ... Verdict for plaintiff, a white wampan peague or the eighth part of a penny damage.
Georg Martyn v. Willi. Sargent. Slander. For saying his wife was a witch. Verdict for defendant. Court did not concur.
Georg Martyn v. Tho. Sargent. Withdrawn.

It seems based on the original source that Sargent was found guilty of slander twice (once for damages and another where the "court did not concur" with the finding for the defendant (Sargent). The third charge, against Thomas Sargent, was withdrawn.

Just making sure that this makes sense to everyone else and that I can change the text appropriately. Bdevoe (talk) 00:02, 7 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I just wanted to mention that George Martin was the indentured servant of Samuel Winsley who was Mary Jones Winsley's father in law. Samuel and George Martin remained friends and I believe one of Samuel's sons was named executor of George Martin's will so there was bad blood from two directions. I hope this helps.Scwinslow (talk) 01:42, 8 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
