Can someone place a link that the J18A engine really is from mazda?

Suzuki Esteem → Suzuki Cultus Crescent — This article should really be under Suzuki Cultus Crescent, as such was its original name. Export markets used a wide variety of other names, so the as per naming conventions the JDM name takes precedence. Oppose because of changes to WP:CARS/Conventions#Titles. Remember the Mazda3 discussion? The non-car people opposed our conventions, so now we can't use this anymore. On a personal level, I would have supported it, but I feel we need to review the naming conventions again. --Pc13 (talk) 14:01, 10 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The now revised conventions (since mid-2010) is 100 percent compliant with WP:Common name. It now specifies that the common name should be used if one exists. For example, the Mazda Axela is sold in every global market as the Mazda3, so the article is titled as such. The Mazda3 discussion was a major factor behind the revision of the policy, which at the time called for a blanked use of the home-market name. However, there is no common English-market name for the Suzuki Cultus Crescent—in North America the "Suzuki Esteem" name was used—whilst in Europe and Australasia the same car was known as the "Suzuki Baleno". Therefore, selecting either of these export names would completely disregard the other, so there is no common "English-market" name. OSX (talk • contributions) 14:14, 10 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Comment: was this car really called the "Cultus Crescent"? Neither of these images have "Crescent" badging, and the the Japanese Wikipedia page スズキ・カルタス lists the Cultus/Esteem/Baleno in the same article as the regular Cultus (Swift). OSX (talk • contributions) 14:23, 10 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yes it was: if you look closer you'll see that the infobox reads "スズキ・カルタス(クレセント)", the last bit spelling out "Kuresento". The problem with the rear view photos is that they're both of the later facelift model, by which time the car was renamed simply "Cultus" (after May 1998) as it replaced the original Cultus in the home market. However, in export markets they remained separate ranges (as evidenced by their differing names). The first line of the Japanese article also reads "Cultus Crescent".
