History[edit]

I created the article today with 2006/2007 spec information, an infobox, one image, some external links, and some history. Someone please help expand out the history of the bike. Roguegeek 03:28, 10 September 2006 (UTC) !- Added 2008 specifications to the table. :) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.217.80.91 (talk) 15:13, 20 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Suspension[edit]

The amount of text about the suspension is too much for the table. Should it be cut down to match the 1997-2000 entry?GGink (talk) 14:59, 4 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Power figures[edit]

Please note that the power figures cited are all tested at the rear wheel, not net engine power.

This is significant because of European motorcycle licensing categories. I've edited it to a simple, factual "rear wheel power" and would very much appreciate having it kept as that. Rogerborg (talk) 11:24, 6 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

They are not all tested at the rear wheel. For the 2006 GSX-R600, figure of 106.09 specifies BHP (i.e. crankshaft output), not HP (net or rear wheel horsepower). See Brake horsepower. I've once again verified by checking with the original source, Cycle World, July 2006. I would certainly prefer to only cite tested RWHP, but unfortunately we don't always have good sources for every model year, and so we have to make do with BHP.

If you have a source for the tested RWHP for this bike, please go ahead and replace it here. But even then, we will continue to mix hp and bhp for the power row of tables like this, because it's better than nothing. Anyone who is going to make an important decision about whether they're qualified to ride a bike ought to have enough sense to understand how horsepower is measured and the important distinctions between units. Moreover, anyone who buys a bike thinking it's under the European limit based solely on what they read in Wikipedia has only themselves to blame. Who in 2015 is that ignorant about the reliability of what you find on an open wiki? If they're old enough for a bike license they're old enough to follow the links and read the cited source for themselves. --Dennis Bratland (talk) 20:28, 6 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
