The article starts by stating that Jack is a legendary dog.
As legendary is usually taken to mean a famous and well known tale/ person/ creature/ feet whose existence is in some doubt and possibly apocryphal. As there are still people alive who witnessed Jack's feats, newspaper reports, records in the canine defence leagues archives and numerous other good sources Jack's existence and deeds are not in doubt.
I'm changing it from legendary to famous for this reason.

This article, as of 2009/12/04 states that Swansea Jack is "Swansea Jack (the dog) was not a Newfoundland (as some believe) but a Flat-Coated Retriever (or possibly a Curly Coated Retriever), as is clear from photographs of him with his owner", while the wikipedia article for the newfoundland dog says that Swansea Jack was a Newfoundland, although "Often mistaken for a flat-coated retriever as the Newfoundland breed has gotten much larger". The dog clearly lived before modern breed standards were in place and would not qualify as a pure bred of either the Newfoundland or Flat-Coated Retriever breeds (and he certainly was not a Curly-Coated Retriever either). Since it is true that Newfoundland dogs were smaller at that time, I am rewriting this section identifying him as a retriever, similar in appearance to a modern flat-coated retriever.
depending on source citing him as a "Newfoundland" this could have meant he may have been a Labrador (just with a long coat as they can have if uncut). The Labrador was originally from newfoundland and known as the "Lessor Newfoundland" eventually being given the name of neighbouring labrador to avoid confusion with the "greater newfoundland"
