Tallest in the world[edit]

The article states that the Eclipse ride in Sweden is the highest (I guess they mean tallest) swing ride in the world at 121m. The Swedish version of the amusement park's web page confirms this hight (121m). http://www.gronalund.com/Attraktioner/Alla-attraktioner/Eclipse/

Six Flags in Texas has a ride they call SkyScreamer that they claim is the world's tallest at 400ft. http://content.sixflags.com/newfor2013/overtexas/texas-skyscreamer/

400ft is 121.9m so by just looking at those numbers the article here on wikipedia is wrong. But, to complicate things further, Eclipse is also claimed to be 400ft if you look at the English version of amusement park's web page for the ride (http://www.gronalund.com/en/Attraktioner/Alla-attraktioner/Eclipse/). So if the English version is to be trusted more than the Swedish version they are equally tall.

I emailed Grönalund asking about the exact height of their ride Eclipse. They confirmed that it is the same height as the Texas SkyScreamer, 400 feet. I've updated the article accordingly, but just for the entry in the section about Sweden. I think it would be more fair to also mention it next to the Texas SkyScreamer in the section about North America, but that section has a different formating that doesn't make it as easy to add that extra information. Can someone else please help me with adding it?

Accident[edit]

Does anyone know of the accident featured in this video at filecabi.net ([1] 10mb WMV)? At the 2:55 mark, what looks like footage shot by a person with a camcorder standing at the perimeter fence of the ride, shows the large rotating part coming off the central pillar and crashing to the ground over the top of the riders. Ignore that filecabi.net link, collegehumour.com has a 1.4mb file at higher quality that shows more detail. The clip also shows a logo for "REALTV", presumably a local tv station?

Thought it might have been this incident but the Chaos ride isn't a swinging carousel type.

NAFLIC mentions a chair-o-plane centre column collapse, but doesn't give specific details. (see item 062). Tzarius 11:25, 11 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I would like to see the Chair-o-planes page merged with the Swings (ride) page. I was looking for information on the swing attraction, but couldn't find anything about it until I searched on "rotating chair attraction amusement park." Most people will not likely know the brand name of "chair-o-planes" when they are looking for this information.

Strates Shows are one of the only touring companies...[edit]

I find the statement about Strates Shows difficult to believe when every carnival and faire worth the name in Germany has a traditional swing ride, not to mention that Europe has now been seeing for a couple of years the new 50+ meter high swings both stationary and touring..... Should this statement be removed as advertisement or qualified in some fashion? --OliverH (talk) 19:02, 27 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed, will take it out since no source has been provided in two years. W Nowicki (talk) 23:22, 10 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Merge?[edit]

Is this article only supposed to be about the original ride with a stable rotation? All the pictures show the tiliting action which seems to make them Wave swingers, or the swing carousel which redirects here, as far as I can tell does tilt too. So how about merging at least two and maybe all three of these articles?

So is "Chair-o-planes" an older name, a brand name of some company, or name used in England? I have never heard it in the States. W Nowicki (talk) 23:23, 12 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Merging Successful[edit]

The project of merging six articles in Chair-O-Planes (the standard name of all rides covered) has been successful, and we are now focusing on gathering information in order to complete the article.

Chair-O-PlanesSwing ride – This is the common name or even a chair swing ride. Vegaswikian (talk) 03:11, 2 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support Yea, Chair-O-Planes hints at a trademarked name that doesn't describe all the different kinds of chair swing rides around the world. The name should probably be made less specific and more broadly reflective of all types of chair swing rides. And this article probably needs a rewrite but can reference the original (I'm not even sure bout the original) Chair-O Planes ride that gives this name, but use chair swing ride for the newer variations. I have never heard of this name before, so I wouldn't know what it is if first encountered, but chair swing ride is general enough to give the person an idea of what the ride is. - M0rphzone (talk) 07:24, 2 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

History section incorrect[edit]

Revolving swing chair rides significantly predate 1972. There are pictures of a swing chair ride at the British Empire Exhibition in 1924. The National Fairground Archives in Sheffield has many images of both stationary and travelling versions that predate 1972. Perhaps the 1972 date refers specifically to the wave swinger variant with the tilting top? 2A02:8012:AC2D:0:CAA:3953:3C6E:F614 (talk) 21:06, 28 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
