St. Bernard?[edit]

Isn't the St. Bernard also a Swiss Mountain dog? Shouldn't it also be listed here? -=mini=- 20:43, 31 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

While the St Bernard is Swiss and has its origins in the Alps, it isn't generally considered a Swiss Mountain Dog. It's more of a classification of genetics (the four SMD breeds are quite closely related) than of taking the name literally. --Pharaoh Hound (talk) (The Game) 11:58, 1 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Both breeds are alleged to have descended from the same ancient type.

Photos[edit]

Please do not add photos, or change photos without discussion here. The idea is to demonstrate the similarity of the four breeds with four (only four) similar photographs, not to create a gallery of some individual's dogs.--Hafwyn (talk) 02:48, 24 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
