– Since "new" is a relative time reference, and thus discouraged from use, it may not be appropriate to name this article "New Sydney Football Stadium". There is however a precedent to disambiguate articles on stadiums with the same name by noting the opening year of a previous stadium, i.e. Wembley Stadium (1923) and Yankee Stadium (1923). Therefore, the article on the former Sydney Football Stadium can be titled Sydney Football Stadium (1988). – PhilipTerryGraham (talk · articles · reviews) 19:35, 17 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@GiantSnowman: It seems I need to clarify what "planned" means in this context – the stadium's construction has been funded and approved by the government. [1][2]. I know what planned means. Lots of things get planned but never come to fruition. The fact there is approval and funding is great, but actually irrelevant. What if there is a change in Government and approval is removed? What if the funding falls through? etc. GiantSnowman 13:19, 18 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@GiantSnowman: Reliable sources have verified that the stadium is planned to be built, therefore the use of "proposed" is inappropriate here. This is the factual current status of development. Trying to raise "what if"s about the future of the project would actually be the WP:CRYSTAL concern here. Throwing in an agreement with PhilipTerryGraham, "Planned" is not in any way WP:CRYSTAL concern in this context. It is planned to be built. Plans change, and "proposal" is inaccurate. Cerebral726 (talk)
Then why does the article open with "The New Sydney Football Stadium is a proposed football stadium in Moore Park, Sydney, Australia."? Change that and move this article to Planned Sydney Football Stadium] until such time as it is actually built (3 years away). And yes, "planned" is still CRYSTAL. Looks like the status of the project needs to be updated then, since plans have been made. Saying it's planned doesn't mean we are saying it is going to happen, it's just that plans have been laid out, arrangements have been made, etc. No specific predictions are being made, we are simply saying it is currently "planned."   • Oppose at least for now. New Sydney Football Stadium is the commonly used working title, but the official name has not yet been confirmed. New Sydney Football Stadium → Sydney Football Stadium (2021) – Per my previous rationale for moving the page away from "New Sydney Football Stadium", the use of "new" is discouraged from use in these circumstances as it is a relative time reference. This new proposal differs as instead I'm proposing it to be moved to "Sydney Football Stadium (2021)" per the suggestion of GiantSnowman in the previous discussion, which other users had no discernible opposition to.   • Oppose New Sydney Football Stadium is fine for now. As stated in the previous discussion, it may not end up being named Sydney Football Stadium. It's completion date has now been pushed back until late 2022, and as this is a project that has suffered numerous delays already, could easily slip again. @Bromptop: We'd have to deal with the current situation, though, not what we think is going to happen in the future. Exactly, stating that it will be named the Sydney Football Stadium is crystal balling, it may well end up being named something else. Plenty of infrastructure projects are conceived under one name, only to be renamed by the time they are opened; Stadium Australia, Tallawong railway station, Newcastle Interchange and some of the light rail stops being examples. There will be a time to rename the article, but until we know what the name will be, don't see a pressing need when the current name is crystal clear as to what it is.   • Oppose current, Support anything without "new". "New" is unencyclopedic. Encyclopedic material should be timeless. "New" is recentism. Also, it is not yet "new", because it does not yet exist. When it does exist, the next day it will no longer be new. Also, it will almost certainly have a new name by then. The generic name, with a parenthetical proposal or completion date would be OK. Unfortunately, due to the vagaries of the English language, we can not consistently present this as "new" rather than "New"; my first impression on reading the title would be that "New Sydney" is part of the name, which I would guess would also be confusing to other readers.   • Support with some disambiguator – e.g., "Sydney Football Stadium (proposed for 2022)": Per SmokeyJoe, every stadium was new at some point in time and Wikipedia should avoid using relative time (WP:RELTIME), and this stadium doesn't even exist. Primary topic[edit]

Currently Sydney Football Stadium is a redirect to the now demolished Sydney Football Stadium (1988). Inevitably when the new Sydney Football Stadium (2022) opens, editors will incorrectly link Sydney Football Stadium instead of Sydney Football Stadium (2022).

Should we either change Sydney Football Stadium to point to the 2022 article, or set it up as a disambiguation page? Or should the 2022 article be renamed Sydney Football Stadium after it opens as the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC as is the case with Wembley Stadium and Wembley Stadium (1923)?
