I couldn't find a source that states that the Taça Brasil can be compared, in importance level, to the Campeonato Brasileiro. I understand that it was the only national competition by then, but it was played only among state champions, in knockout rounds. In 1967, the Roberto Gomes Pedrosa (Taça de Prata) was created, in a round robin dispute among the major brazilian teams, much more alike the present Campeonato Brasileiro. And this creation didn't extinguish the Taça Brasil, which was played until 1969. Therefore, there were two national champions in 1967, 1968 and 1969, the cup winner (Taça Brasil) and the championship winner (Roberto Gomes Pedrosa). Roberto Gomes Pedrosa was extinguished in 1971, when the first Campeonato Brasileiro was played. To elevate Taça Brasil to the same importance level as Roberto Gomes Pedrosa and Campeonato Brasileiro is a mistake, since it was easier to win. For example, a team from Rio de Janeiro or São Paulo could win it only playing four games (Semi-finals and finals). Mindarolho 22:18, 3 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
