what is the government legislation regarding to tangihanga pre-1840? I cannot find this on any of the govt pages etc. CAn you help me please I am doing tikanga marae and this is one of the subjects. Thank you

Too late to be of much use, but New Zealand did not have a parliament capable of passing legislation until 1854, and I doubt if the British Parliament passed legislation specific to Tangihanga prior to that. dramatic (talk) 21:57, 10 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Clarify close kin speaking[edit]

Please clarify "The close kin may not speak". Is it "The close kin are not permitted to speak" or "The close kin might not speak"? Jesselong (talk) 18:53, 26 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
