Saliva on arrow[edit]

In versions of the tale I've read before, the hero's shots had no effect on the centipede until he spat on the arrow, human saliva apparently being believed deadly to centipedes. Atypicaloracle (talk) 04:37, 30 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, Atypicaloracle that is a crucial detail in the story.

I've replaced the summary of an obscure source with summary from Tawara Tōda Monogatari, and included spit on arrow bit (cf. Kembrough tr.,[1] Dykstra & Kurata trr.[2])

Second half is Masakado-punishing[edit]

A separate Tawara Tōda monogatari article would redundantly cover the centipede-slaying part, so I have treated the Tawara Tōda monogatari as inclusive in the article topic and boldfaced it.

Having said this, the monogatari does have a second half about Tawara Toda's suppression of Taira no Masakado's rebellion (Tengyō no Ran), and I have not elaborated on. This would be a glaring omission if the topic were to include the whole monogatari. --Kiyoweap (talk) 03:51, 31 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

pronunciation[edit]

I think it may be better to write "Tawara no Tōta" or "Tawara Tōta". But I don't know how the resources reffer to the pronunciation of his name.--UikiHedeo (talk) 14:13, 8 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
