Direction of Originality[edit]

Should this perhaps be the other way 'round? Arabic substituting sh /ʃ/ with th /θ/ in a loan doesn't make much sense, but if we are talking about inheritance, Proto-Semitic *θ does become Hebrew /ʃ/. --Trɔpʏliʊm • blah 15:16, 4 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

When I read that line, I had the same reaction immediately. The original form is more likely to be much closer to "Thadyen" than to "Shaddai" as Arabic preserved the PS voiceless-th sound, while in Hebrew, the sound became sh. Probably a better rendering of this sentence should be:

"Thadyen" being the modern Arabic rendering of what became West Semitic "Shaddai"

I suggest rewriting this sentence. If nobody replies for a while (which seems likely as not much traffic seems to pass this article) I will try to adjust the sentence. — al-Shimoni (talk) 15:47, 25 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Anachronism[edit]
