Hi @BennyOnTheLoose:. Apologies for your delay in receiving a review. The article looks to be in decent shape and is meeting most of the criteria, but there is still some expansion to do to meet the Broad in its coverage aspect of the Wikipedia:Good article criteria. I have the below recommendations:

Lead[edit]

  • The lead needs more summary of her non-Olympic sporting achievements. Specifically, her three Commonwealth Games titles, World Cup win, European Championships silver medal, and her participation at three World Championships. Also needs mention of her British/Commonwealth records and number of national title wins.
  • The lead should mention her time as Sport England Vice-Chairman and her foundation.
  • There is a bit too much detail on the honours for the lead, suggest to move that full text to the honours section and summarise it more briefly in the lead.

Athletics career[edit]

It is important to include key international performances in the body text.

Media work[edit]

Incoming links suggest several television appearances that have not yet been listed. Given the number of these, it may be better to place this information in a table with the years etc.

  • Not added, as I have found sources that she participated in the Sport Relief Mile in 2006, but not any that confirm she was in the broadcast programme. BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 23:31, 24 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • I haven't included Brain Drain (1993-08-06) listed on this site as newspaper TV listings for 6 August 1993 show that Tony Hawks, Jo Brand, Sandi Toksvig and Alistair McGowan were in that edition; no mention of Sanderson appearing on the show that I could find. BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 23:31, 24 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Others have been added. BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 23:31, 24 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Sports administration[edit]

  • Can mention her involvement with the Sportstada youth sport initiative [3]
  • The £40k was funded by St Helens Council's Youth Service, not by Sportsada, which seems from their archived site here to be a commercial company, so I'm not inclined to include it. What do you think? BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 23:54, 24 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Her involvement in the Move It or Lose It campaign [4]
  • Looks like another commercial proposition - see their page. I suspect the article probably derives from a press release - the wording of Sanderson's quote here is the same as in the article. Again, happy to include if you think it's suitable. BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 23:54, 24 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

International competitions[edit]

The following significant international performances need adding to the list, and the medals should be mentioned somewhere in the body text.

National titles[edit]

Honours[edit]

The honours section has several omissions:

Records[edit]

  • It is typical to include the annual season's bests performance for an athlete, and their world ranking if available. Raw data for these can be found here. The data for these can also be show in graph format for better display (see Tero Pitkämäki for example).
  • She was ranked second on the all-time lists in 1977, this is a significant achievement which should be mentioned.

Personal life[edit]

  • Could expand more on her experience of adopting children and later life fertility [5][6]
  • Added a bit; let me know if there are any elements still missing here. BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 10:09, 26 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

References[edit]

  • There appears to be an issue with the "The sweet and sour faces of triumph" reference. It is dated as 2016, yet the writer died in 2003 and I cannot locate the article. Can you try and locate the proper details for this, or replace the reference with another verified one? (I will take the rest of the offline and paywalled sources in good faith as the cited material is not controversial and details of the sources appear valid.)
  • Well spotted! I must have copied the citation template from the Lambert reference and neglected to change the date. (This particular source is available though Wikipedia Library access to newspapers.com) BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 01:09, 24 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Misc[edit]

  • She has made some comments on her treatment as a Black British person that warrant some fleshing out [7]
  • Sanderson's opinions on doping warrant inclusion somewhere [8]

Thanks for your thorough review, Sillyfolkboy. I've replied to all the points above. Let me know what else needs to be done. Regards, BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 12:19, 26 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@BennyOnTheLoose: I'll defer to you on the sports administration and media stuff as your responses make sense and I'll trust your judgement over mine on that. Everything looks good to me and the article is ready for promotion to Good Article - I did some minor copyediting to finish up. I'll look to fill out the yearly AAA Championships redlinks in the near future. Excellent work on this by the way!
Before I go to promote, I found some extra national wins on the GBRAthletics website which you may want to add for completeness: wins at the 1976 and 1984 British Olympic Trials, plus 1973 and 1978 Commonwealth Games Trials, English Schools Championships wins in 1972 and 1973, AAA U17 wins in 1971 and 1972 and the 1973 British Schools International Match. She also had five wins at the Midland Counties Championships. Typically I've added age category and trial wins to the national title sections, but I wouldn't consider them essential to the prose. Let me know if you want to add them, and once then I'll conclude the review. Thanks! SFB 22:42, 27 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks again, Sillyfolkboy. I'll add in those additional national wins. Regards, BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 13:16, 28 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Added them in. Let me know about anything to be done, Sillyfolkboy. Regards, BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 14:38, 28 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks BennyOnTheLoose, this concludes the review as the article coverage is now sufficiently broad and addresses all major aspects of the subject. I can confirm it remains well-written, verifiable, neutral, stable, and contains an image of the subject. Congrats! SFB 16:56, 28 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
That was a really useful review, Sillyfolkboy. Hopefully I can use some of what I've learnt on future athletics GA nominations. Regards, BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 22:37, 28 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
