Impossible?[edit]

Optimal strategy[edit]

I think we have the optimal strategy wrong. The list provided at the wizard of odds suggest that lots of hands have negative expectation and should be folded. --best, kevin [kzollman][talk] 18:34, 14 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I disagree. A negative expected value just means that there's less than a 50% chance of winning. Since you've already put in an ante, it doesn't make sense to fold if there's a 49% chance of winning (for example). As a reference, just read the wizardofodds quote "the player should fold unsuited 2/3 to 2/7". The ante is a sunk cost. You don't get paid for most hands back on your ante, so your asking if you should risk 2 units for an payoff of ~2 units. In that case you should fold in almost all negative expectation hands. --best, kevin [kzollman][talk] 19:20, 14 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I'm not sure if my explanation was correct, but I think I somehow came to the correct conclusion despite that.
