Section reorganization and general improvement[edit]
I think this article would benefit from some re-organization and a thorough rewrite. It seems to draw mainly from a few recent sources that focus on active gene expression after death. It would probably be helpful to include a bit more background on methods for measuring RNA in a forensic context, and on RNA degradation, which will be the main biological process affecting the transcriptome after death. I would suggest re-organizing the sections, as below:
Merge "Thanatotranscriptomic analysis" and "Analytical techniques". This section should probably mention both global methods (microarrays) and targeted measurement methods (e.g. RT-PCR).
Create a separate section for the "thanatomicrobiome", or possibly move this topic to a new article. It is a bit out-of-place here.
Expand the scientific history section to include a least a few sentences on pre-2015 findings, which are alluded to in the current first sentence "Clues to the existence of a post-mortem transcriptome existed at least since the beginning of the 21st century..."
Rewrite and streamline the "Applications" section, which feels quite rough at present.
I may put some effort into this later when I have more time to read the underlying sources. Alhufton (talk) 11:55, 6 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with you regarding the organization of this article. Lacking the subject matter knowledge to flesh out the content in the manner you described, I have, as an interim step and with a view to readability, reorganized the first three sections of the preceding version into just two sections now – one for content pertaining to history and context, and another for content pertaining to analysis.
