Quality and importance ratings added

I've added a couple more Wikiprojects, and wrapped them in the banner shell to collapse them down. I've rated the article as C-class, low-importance for now, though I would love to up-rate either of those things at a later date. — Sasuke Sarutobi (talk) 02:58, 1 September 2013 (UTC)

Why the "listas=Crossey, Mike" parameter? Crossey is just a co-producer of their debut album. I corrected that. Apart from that, good work. — Mayast (talk) 07:26, 1 September 2013 (UTC)

The last section under History, called "The 1975 (2013–present)", begins "The 1975, the band's eponymous debut album..." The band is eponymous, not the album--please revise to "the band's self-titled debut album" or similar. Musiqua (talk) 17:10, 7 January 2014 (UTC)

Done; changed to "self-titled". Thanks, LittleMountain5 17:59, 7 January 2014 (UTC)

please remove "indie rock" from the genres. because indie rock is a very broad genre, the band only covers a small part of the indie rock category. therefore, the band should not be named as indie rock. Timbobpoop (talk) 11:32, 4 August 2014 (UTC)

Most genres are per definition 'broad'; the band is signed to an indie label Dirty Hit and play rock music. Hence, indie rock. Karst (talk) 12:46, 4 August 2014 (UTC)
Not done The genres in the infobox cite AllMusic as a source and that lists:- "Alternative/Indie Rock, Indie Rock and New Wave/Post-Punk Revival" so "Indie Rock" is based on an independent source. Arjayay (talk) 15:36, 4 August 2014 (UTC)

Please change the Band Member timeline for each member from "2002-present" to "2012-present" because the band was formed in 2012, not 2002. Irby94 (talk) 15:39, 21 November 2014 (UTC)

Done; Fixed.Karst (talk) 15:46, 21 November 2014 (UTC)

John Waugh

While saxophonist John Waugh might be introduced on stage as a member of the band, he is essentially a gun-for-hire for this tour and should not be listed as a permanent member of The 1975. Additionally he describes himself as a 'side-man' on his own page, here. Please refrain from adding him to the list of members. Karst (talk) 13:34, 13 January 2015 (UTC)

Grammar

First sentence reads, "The 1975 is an English indie rock band formed in Manchester", but should read, "The 1975 are an English indie rock band formed in Manchester". Furthermore, sections of the whole article possibly should be corrected according to this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_American_and_British_English#Formal_and_notional_agreement

Pop rock

I think we should include pop rock in the infobox. Various sources describe the band as such, as seen on the musical style section. Myxomatosis57 (talk) 18:34, 12 April 2016 (UTC)

I think we should change them to more of You Alternative rock band because they've gone into so many other genres not just pop — Preceding unsigned comment added by 95.45.57.21 (talk) 23:56, 8 April 2023 (UTC)

Hi, thank you for your suggestion. For now, it is the consensus that Alternative Rock be the primary genre because of its broad definition. The band currently is not defined by Pop rock nor identify these qualities definitely, but encompasses several genres, the majority of which are sub-genres of Alternative/Alt rock. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Westin.payne (talkcontribs) 07:02, 13 April 2016 (UTC)

How come they're not defined by "pop rock", while the band is described as such by a variety of sources (including but no limited to [1], [2], [3], [4], [5], [6], [7]). These overweight the rather miniscule amount of sources on the article that call them alternative, if you ask me. (Also I can't really see any actual consensus pertaining to the genres on the talk page.) Myxomatosis57 (talk) 08:59, 13 April 2016 (UTC)
Myxomatosis' amount of sources alone should justify putting it there. That being said, the strongest of these references should be added next to pop rock in the style section (I suggest only as many as two or three more to avoid overcitation). In summary, I believe the amount of coverage on this genre is great enough to change it. dannymusiceditor what'd I do now? 14:32, 15 April 2016 (UTC)

George's role in members section

Shouldn't George also be listed as 'producer' in addition to being the drummer. His production / electronica is a huge part of their sound. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A02:C7F:EB10:9900:563:7984:5623:826E (talk) 09:29, 28 August 2021 (UTC)

Origin

Hi all,

while I acknowledge that the band members grew up in Wilmslow, they are more heavily associated with being a Manchester band. Should the origin be Manchester, or Wilmslow? HiddenHerobrine (talk) 22:18, 10 May 2023 (UTC)

for all intents and purposes beyond local governance boundaries, Wilmslow acts as a suburb of Manchester. Wikipedia (users) has(/have) some bizarre obsession with UK local government boundaries being used instead of common parlance for places, see the strange opening to the Manchester article.
