Holmes as solar myth?[edit]

Could we have some sources for this bizarre claim? Thermaland 15:54, 1 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Inconsistencies[edit]

I reverted the edit by 75.108.121.187 with the apologetic treatment of the plot hole. First, it's OR, secondly, it's beside the point. If Moran knew that Holmes was alive and only was unclear regarding his whereabouts, Holmes' statement "It was all-important that I was thought dead" would make no sense.

(Admittedly, the first paragraph of the Inconsistencies section is already bordering on OR as well, but I think with some goodwill one can accept it as common sense statement.) --Syzygy (talk) 10:36, 3 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Actually William Baring-Gould's The Annotated Sherlock Holmes points out there are many issues with Holmes story - enough to doubt the whole thing. This results in several theories which Baring-Gould relates:
Holmes was killed and either because he had a hand in it or was afraid of Moriarty's gang Mycroft Holmes had someone who looked like Holmes learn enough to pass himself off as Holmes.
It was Moriarty not Holmes that died at Reichenbach Falls and it was the Professor who passed himself as Holmes to Watson.
Holmes to cover his failing abilities created Moriarty. A variant of this appears in The New Adventures of Sherlock Holmes: Original Stories by Eminent Mystery Writers as "The House that Jack Built" where Moriarty is revealed as a Hyde-like personality of Holmes.
Holmes quickly returned to London and in heavy disguise worked against the remnants of Moriarty's gang.--2606:A000:131D:45A7:D4ED:5FF9:467F:E2B8 (talk) 20:52, 23 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Adaptations[edit]

Mark Gatiss confirmed recently that the first episode of BBC's Sherlock will be based off of this story... can we add that to Adaptations yet or does it need to be aired first? 75.156.56.50 (talk) 04:53, 5 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
