Notable?[edit]

Surely the 'notability' question is ridiculous for a Neil Young album!? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mattsea (talkcontribs) 12:38, 24 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

WP:MUSIC says unreleased albums are generally not notable, but might be with significant coverage in independent, reliable sources. One Billboard article is not "sources". The dead link does not provide any info allowing us to find the actual source, whatever it was. - Mdsummermsw (talk) 15:15, 27 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Mdsummermsw, you're right to say that unreleased albums are generally not notable. However, Neil Young's Archives are most certainly notable for several reasons. Firstly, they have been much anticipated by the music media, as well as the fans themselves. Neil Young has a long and varied career and many people are waiting to hear the unreleased stuff on the archives.
It's also notorious for having been delayed for such a long time. As you can read from the main archives page, the archives were first mooted sometime in the 1980s and have been scheduled for release many times. However, now they seem to be heading for final release sometime soon (2008-9) since trailers for the box set have been released, Blu-Ray discs have been announced then demonstrated at the most recent Java conference, etc. Thebrid (talk) 15:49, 13 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I am sure there are a lot more independent sources that could be quoted. PS we've had Ordinary People after almost 20 years waiting - so surely the Archives must be close !! -- Beardo (talk) 07:22, 18 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Difference in CD and DVD editions?[edit]

So does anyone remember how when he released the Live at Massey Hall 1971 thing (along with others) it was an option to buy with a DVD, and the DVD turned out to be absolutely fucking worthless (i.e. stupid pictures 'from the show' (so not actual video footage) and stuff? It cost an obscene amount of extra money and pissed off everyone I knew who bought it. Does anyone know what these DVDs are actually going to be? His website doesn't say much about it except an "interactive timeline feature", which means NOT COOL FOOTAGE (to me anyway)... And don't try to tell me how it'll be really interesting. Unless it's genuinely fascinating with Neil Young talking about stuff. My 40something year old father (along with EVERYONE else's), who are technologically inept are not going to want to read a TV screen for 14 hours, they want cool concert footage, thats all im saying..... I think anyone with real info on this should include it in the page so we people know what we'll be buying for $200. sorry if this sounded harsh.Thakmere (talk) 18:39, 3 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Personnel[edit]

Are the personnel listings based on notes that came with the set? Richie Furay sings harmony on "Expecting to Fly" per this comprehensive Buffalo Springfield e-book: http://issuu.com/rokpool/docs/buffalo_springfield_folkrock

If track-by-track personnel listings that came with the set contradict the above I'd obviously go with them. Otherwise perhaps we should consider using this e-book. Of course, it doesn't account for things like mixing someone out, as may have been done to Richie on "Expecting To Fly." I had always thought the two voices were Neil and Richie, but later came to presume it was Neil and Neil.Cbben (talk) 02:04, 18 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
