Noting cover illustrations[edit]

All the cover illustration information that User:68.236.214.31 has been putting up is awesome, but it makes the "published issues" list unreadable. I'm moving the illustration notes to a separate list, which would be silly for other magazines but for The Believer makes a bit of sense, and could maybe be expanded to include notes on other illustrations in each given issue. --Tarnas 22:13, 1 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Inclusion of real, commercial advertisements[edit]

Until The Believer began running commercial ads on its inside back covers in early '07, McSweeney's periodicals had never included ads for non-McSweeney's stuff.

Previously, all ads in McSweeney's publications were either artful, high-concept jokes (as in The Believer's sweet "Personal Ads for Poets" feature from March '05) or ads for actual McSweeney's products (as in the full-page ad for The Neal Pollack Anthology of American Literature in McSweeney's Quarterly #5).

All that, combined with the fact that The Believer had long been promoted/lauded as specifically "ad-free" makes the inclusion of ads in The Believer worth noting. -- Bigcharles 18:45, 27 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:The believer (magazine) cover.gif[edit]

Image:The believer (magazine) cover.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Is The believer (magazine) defunct?[edit]

The most recent issue, according to their Web site is Fall 2015.Yet they claim to publish 8 issues per year. Also, Karolina Waclawiak is listed as an editor http://www.believermag.com/about/ but her web site http://www.karolinawaclawiak.com/?page_id=60 says, "Formerly an editor at the Believer, she is now the Deputy Culture Editor at BuzzFeed." Believer's old domain redirects to culture.org[edit]

Hoping The Believer (magazine) article will include explanation of why old domain redirects to culture.org (some The Believer content is now at culture.org). Oldest version of The Believer (magazine) links to www.believermag.com, with official link wiki-updated to thebeliever.net with a 6 October 2022 edit. The old believermag.com URL redirects to https://culture.org/ with some of the old URLs redirecting to URL at new domain: example http://web.archive.org/web/20220511024018/http://believermag.com/logger/ including link to http://web.archive.org/web/20220510162401/https://believermag.com/logger/the-real-horror-of-night-in-the-woods/ were the livelink now redirects to https://culture.org/logger/the-real-horror-of-night-in-the-woods/ (but without crediting the author "Ellie Kovach" (compared with example piece at old domain http://web.archive.org/web/20220510160447/https://believermag.com/pencil-pushing/ where the live link just redirects to culture.org homepage) Cybersquatted?? or something else such as an incomplete transition?? @EarthFurst, Culture.org brings up a pop-up banner that says "You are viewing an archive. For new Believer content, visit TheBeliever.net." It appears that (possibly between the shutdown and the repurchase by McSweeney's) someone archived the old site to culture.org. That pop-up is the closest thing I can find to explain the relationship between believermag.com, culture.org, and thebeliever.net. Schazjmd (talk) 19:14, 17 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
