"Smugglers" connection?

Does anyone know whether any reliable source has reported on the possible connection between this story and The Smugglers (1966)? The MacGuffin of The Smugglers is the search for "Avery's gold", Avery being a notorious pirate (possibly the historical Henry Avery); Avery is dead at the time of that story's setting. I know that there's been widespread fan speculation about a possible connection between the Avery mentioned in The Smugglers and the Avery seen in "The Curse of the Black Spot", but obviously we can't include that in this article unless it's reached some RS. I couldn't find any online, but I was wondering whether the possible connection has been mentioned in any print media, such as DWM, SFX or even one of the tabloid newspapers (who, of course, aren't the best sources in general, but might suffice for these purposes). OK, apparently the latest Doctor Who Magazine (which I won't see for a month) describes this story as "a prequel, of sorts, to The Smugglers". Captain Avery

The prequel has confirmed that the Captain Avery in this story is the captain of a pirate ship named Fancy. Is that enough to justify linking his name in the cast list to the historical Henry Avery (or Every), a notorious pirate of the late 17th century who captained a ship named Fancy? Or would that constitute original research at this point? I can see arguments going either way. It diesn't say that. It says that one should not convert a redirect-link into a piped-link. It does not say that one should not create piped-links in the first place – otherwise what would be the point of piped-links at all? More proof that you clearly haven't read WP:NOTBROKEN: "With a few limited exceptions, there are no good reasons to pipe links solely to avoid redirects." Was I the only one to notice some semblances to Pirates of the Caribbean? The music was similar, the title is similar to the first Pirates of the Caribbean movies's subtitle: The Curse of the Black Pearl.
