labour and working conditions[edit]

This is a very generalised BIASED view of the working conditions in dubai and dubai mall. This is a conscious effort to malign the DUBAI MALL AND UAE. Labour practices in dubai mall are better than world wide standards.

Hi Charlesknight, I just wanted to drop a suggestion. Maybe you should add a "neutrality of this article/section is disputed" link so we can discuss it further here in the discussion section. If nothing else, it will at least draw people into a discussion, and hopefully, if there is exploitation going on (and I don't doubt it), at the very least, more people will be informed of it. I would add it myself, but feel it would be more appropriate coming from you, since you brought it up (even though I do think it merits discussion).... JeffF

Page is Outdated and Now Inaccurate[edit]

This page needs to be updated to reflect new information that has recently been revealed with regards to Dubai Mall. One aspect of the article that is incorrect given the new information are the figures reflecting the size of the mall. Not the largest Mall[edit]

According to Gulf news the mall has "leasable space of 3.77 million square feet" http://www.gulfnews.com/business/Development/10204211.html ... that doesn't make it largest mall in the world. The leasable space of South China Mall is over 7 million square feet. Even West Edmonton Mall in Canada (which is ranked 5th or 6th) is 3.8 million square feet leasable space. 75.87.86.76 (talk) 18:27, 31 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The article currently states, "... with about 600 retailers, marking the world's largest-ever mall opening in retail history. However it is not the largest in gross leasable space, ...". totally agreed dude. ya wikipedia get it right. dubai mall is the largest mall in the world when it comes to the amount of land that the company claims that the seperate buildings that make up the mall in its entirety cover. 12 million square feet. no, no...u cant do that lol. the largest single mall in the world is south china mall, golden resources mall, or west edmonton mall in fact which is still the largest in north america.Jwking (talk) 07:49, 17 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
This article and List of largest buildings in the world‎ both use the figure of 12,100,000 sq ft, and that does appear in many sources. But the annual report of Emaar Properties only says that the "total internal floor area" is 5.9 million sq ft and the "gross leasable space" is 3.77 million sq ft. So what measurement does 12.1 million represent? If it is the "external area" of the building as opposed to the "internal area", the walls of the building must be absurdly thick! The South China Mall is now called the New South China Mall. This is not really the world's largest mall as it is 99% empty. It might as well be closed.Royalcourtier (talk) 02:23, 17 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

New picture needed[edit]

Now that the Dubai Mall has actually been built, we don't need a rendering anymore. We can get an actual photograph of the mall. Dubai Aquarium -- Bad Physics[edit]

The article currently states, "Its 750 mm thick acrylic viewing panel can withstand pressure of 10 million litres of water used in the aquarium, ...". The pressure is not a function of the water volume but of the depth of the water. The required thickness of the panel will be a function of both the pressure and, more importantly here, its span. Unfortunately this is the wording used by the albawaba.com reference (currently #8) and it is not factually inaccurate -- the pressure that is present is generated by the 10 million liters of water -- but it is misleading as the same pressure could be generated by any amount of water, however large or small, by varying the width (perpendicular to the viewing panel) of the tank. We don't have to keep this unfortunate wording just because it appeared in the source, do we? -- Kirk Hilliard (talk) 07:34, 5 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Independent figures?[edit]

Are there any independent figures (ie not from the owner) of the number of visitors? UNWTO [1] saus UAE only had 9m international tourist arrivals, so they must be going multiple times to get anywhere near these figures. Justinc (talk) 16:44, 14 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

This article is crap; 56 million visitors in 2012? There are only 80,000 hotel rooms in UAE! Dubai expects to increase its number of tourists to 20 million by 2020, when it hopes to host the World Expo. Shopping centres count individual visits, not unique individuals. I believe the visitor figures for West Edmonton Mall exceed the number of people who visit Alberta annually, too. But that's because they also count the many Albertans who go there regularly. And I believe employees are also counted because when they aren't working they may be shopping or dining in the mall. If Dubai Mall has 1,000 employees a day (a lowball figure) that's a quarter million additional visits a year right there. Dubai has more than 2 million people and a trading area of much more than that. I agree finding a second source does no harm, but I don't find that number necessarily unrealistic when you factor in other things. A hefty percentage of people who go to Disneyland actually live within a short drive of Disneyland; they don't need hotel rooms. 68.146.52.234 (talk) 18:09, 7 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Stores?[edit]

Going by the article it appears the only named store in the entire place is a candy store. Who are the anchors? Does the mall host any international brands? Is there a Wal-Mart?
