Comments[edit]

On Death's Scream Bloody Gore album they have a song called Evil Dead, so I referred them in the disambiguation. You're welcome. :D —Preceding unsigned comment added by 142.166.93.89 (talk) 00:51, 9 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the move request was: not moved. No consensus on whether the 1981 film or the series should be moved to the undisambiguated title. Jenks24 (talk) 08:59, 7 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The Evil Dead (disambiguation)The Evil Dead – There is no primary topic associated with "The Evil Dead". Instead of redirecting The Evil Dead to The Evil Dead (franchise) and adding a hat pointing here, the disambiguation should be located at The Evil Dead.BOVINEBOY2008 15:18, 9 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose. Nearly all relevant topics from the dab relate to some aspect of the franchise; it might even make more sense to move the franchise page to the plain title with a link to the dab page at the top. Dekimasuよ! 21:36, 16 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. Something needs to be moved to the base name, and it's probably the 1981 film (restoring the arrangement from to the move in January 2012). Failing that, the franchise would be a good choice. Moving the dab to the base name would be my third choice. -- JHunterJ (talk) 12:38, 29 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose because I do not think we need a disambiguation page. I agree that the franchise is not the primary topic, but I think the primary topic is the 1981 film. The other topics are not specifically "Evil Dead" or are just minor derivatives (like the video games). I think it makes sense that when a reader searches for "The Evil Dead", they will come to the 1981 film article, which has a reputation unto its own. • Oppose per Dekimasu. I would also be inclined to move the franchise page to the base title, but this does not mean that the film is ambiguous to the franchise. The film is part of the franchise, and the whole thing is the primary topic of the name. bd2412 T 16:00, 29 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
As far as I know, people (and reliable sources) do not call the franchise "The Evil Dead". It might be "the Evil Dead franchise" or "the Evil Dead series", but "The Evil Dead" by itself is the first film in the franchise/series, and when readers search on "The Evil Dead", that's what we should give them. -- JHunterJ (talk) 17:04, 29 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
In my experience, franchise and film series articles are artificial topics on Wikipedia. I know because I created a few such articles that aggregated information across films within a series. :) So the topics exist but mainly with modifiers ("trilogy", "film series"), so unless there is an explicit name for the whole series, it tends to be secondary. In this case, when we say "The Evil Dead", I think we're inclined to think of the original film since we have no modifier attached. There's also a similar precedent for the original film as the primary topic at Talk:Home Alone (franchise)#Requested move. EDIT: It mentions the following examples of original-films-in-a-series serving as primary topics: Death Wish, Beverly Hills Cop, Free Willy, Ghostbusters, Hellraiser, The Matrix, Once Upon a Time in China, Scary Movie, Silent Night, Deadly Night, The Prophecy, Wrong Turn.
