alkaloids[edit]

I worked for six years as a synthetic organic chemist. I worked on psychoactive compounds. This article had this phrase "is addicted to morphine (specifically alkaloids)" which makes no sense. Morphine is one of many alkaloids. Some others are: caffeine; nicotine; the antibacterial berberine; the anticancer compound vincrinstine; the Alagent resepine; the Alzheimer’s drug galatamine; the anti-spasmotic atropine; the vasodilator vincamine; the anti-arhythmia compound quinidine; the anti-asthma therapeutic ephedrine; and the antimalarial drug quinine. None of these will produce a high. The vast majority of alkaloids are not psychoactive. I think the author does not understand what "alkaloids" means, so I removed it. I used the term alkaloids since they used that word in the subtitles. I was guessing it meant morphine but write alkaloids in there just in case. Thanks for the fix and the information. ₪RicknAsia₪ 11:35, 13 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
