Rowling and Goodwin[edit]

To the best of my knowledge, neither of these people live in the Grange, but in Merchiston — Preceding unsigned comment added by 185.34.60.74 (talk) 22:51, 30 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation[edit]

I seem to have fairly frequently had to fix links to either this club, or the area of The Grange, Edinburgh, which have been confused with each other, in no small part because people tend to call the area The Grange too. I propose to minimise the chances of further misdirects in future, by renaming the present article to The Grange (cricket club) (or The Grange, Edinburgh (cricket and sports club), or whatever people prefer.) The present article title (The Grange, Edinburgh) could then become a disambiguation page to both the destination articles. There might be a case for mildly renaming the article about the area, too. Comments please anybody? – Kieran T (talk | contribs) 14:20, 7 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well is it just a cricket club or is it a cricket and sports club? If the former, I think your suggestion of The Grange (cricket club) is fine, but why can't it just be an entry on the page for The Grange, Edinburgh? The thing is, does it really warrant a separate article? Regards, David Lauder (talk) 20:52, 16 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for replying, but in fact that comment is from December 2006 (not 2007 as it may have appeared?) and the move happened long since. Whether the club is notable is another matter about which I have no great interest but if it concerns anyone, it may be a case for a deletion discussion. – Kieran T (talk) 21:28, 16 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Apologies, and you're right. I didn't realise it was 2006. Must be demented. Regards, David Lauder (talk) 08:39, 17 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Pilkington[edit]

Pilkington built Grange Park house later on for his family. he was an architect and i live in grange park house ( a mansion) which has now been seperated into 2 houses, but still keeps its beautiful character and design. pilkington also designed the farmiliar Barcley Church in the Bruntsfeild area.→81.76.41.186 (talk) 20:35, 16 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Demolition of Grange House[edit]

The article says that Grange House "survived until 1936 when it was demolished to make way for flats." Grange House stood on the site of what is now Grange Crescent, which was indeed developed mainly in the 1930s. But I think the site contains mainly bungalows and detached houses rather than flats. Can anyone confirm or refute that? Mike Marchmont (talk) 13:02, 22 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I have now edited the paragraph re the demolition of the house. The original text suggested that the house was demolished in order to provide space for building flats. But of course the house was demolished because it was in a very bad state of repair. The demolition of the house allowed for the building of Grange Crescent, which almost entirely consists of bungalows, but that wasn't the reason for the demolition.

New section for notable residents?[edit]

I noticed D. M. Macalister has been added to the section, "In popular culture". This already includes J.K. Rowling and Fred Goodwin. Would it be a good idea to start a "Notable residents" section for these?

Removed J. K. Rowling[edit]

I have removed J. K. Rowling from the list of notable residents. She has never lived in the Grange. The citation led to a page on the website of an estate agent (Coulters) which contained a profile of the village of Gifford, which is in East Lothian, and has nothing to do with either Rowling or the Grange.

The nearest Rowling lived to the Grange was when she lodged with her sister and brother-in-law in a flat at 140 Marchmont Road, some distance to the west of the Grange. (Source: Soroka, Joanne (2013). Edinburgh: Celebrity City Guide. Crowood Press. ISBN 9781847974877.)
