Updated official sales certificate list for UK:

In July 2006, the BPI updated its official top 10 selling albums list:

Source: http://www.bpi.co.uk/stats/content_file_126.shtml

1. BEATLES - SGT PEPPER’S LONELY HEARTS CLUB BAND
2. MICHAEL JACKSON - BAD
3. DIRE STRAITS - BROTHERS IN ARMS
4. OASIS - (WHAT'S THE STORY) MORNING GLORY
5. MADONNA - IMMACULATE COLLECTION
6. ABBA - GOLD
7. SIMPLY RED - STARS
8. QUEEN - GREATEST HITS
9. MICHAEL JACKSON - THRILLER
10. SHANIA TWAIN - COME ON OVER

LAST UPDATED – July 2006

That makes the Immac. Collection the 5th biggest selling album in UK history, the biggest selling album in Britain by a female artist and the biggest selling compilation (ie Best of/Greatest Hits) in history (in Britain) by any artist. Rimmers 13:22, 16 July 2006 (UTC)

NOTE - the above Top 10 was off the BPI Site, & it was wrong.
The Madonna Album is the 10th Best Seller, & 'Gold' by ABBA is

now the 4th Best Seller, (to the end of April 2008), with over 4,100,000 UK Sales. As Agnetha & Frida of ABBA are 'Female Artists', Madonna has the biggest Seller in the UK by a SOLO Female Artist..... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.22.121.169 (talk) 17:36, 16 June 2008 (UTC)

elton johns greatests

How can madonnas immaculate collection wiki web page claim it is the best selling g.h. of all time with 30 million by a solo artist when wikis web page on elton johns g.h has sold over 32 million copies and why does madonnas g.h. make the best selling list but elton johns does not???????????????????203.184.24.161 (talk) 05:57, 3 May 2014 (UTC)

Unsourced and biased claims like this are not taken into consideration. —Indian:BIO · [ ChitChat ] 15:17, 3 May 2014 (UTC)
I'm not sure what albums are compilation albums, but neither artist is very near the top on Wikipedia's own lists of best-sellers.211.225.39.74 (talk) 01:36, 20 September 2014 (UTC)

Clapper

James Clapper, US head of security, used the phrase as the closing phrase in a stock-taking: http://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/david-ignatius-we-underestimated-the-islamic-state-james-clapper-says/2014/09/18/f0f17072-3f6f-11e4-9587-5dafd96295f0_story.html — Preceding unsigned comment added by 211.225.39.74 (talk) 01:18, 20 September 2014 (UTC)

Re-Releases

Why aren't re-releases "not applicable" for the infobox? 'Crazy for You' was re-released to promote 'The Immaculate Collection': its re-release features the Q-Sound mix from 'The Immaculate Collection', and a still from 'Justify My Love' was used as the single cover.

As for 'Holiday', it was re-released with new artwork to promote 'The Immaculate Collection' (as a single and also as the limited edition 'The Holiday Collection' EP). Israell (talk) 06:20, 11 September 2017 (UTC)

elton john gh

SIR ELTON'S GREATEST HITS IS EASILY THE BEST SELLING SINGLE GH IN THE WORLD .WITH SALES APPROACHING 18 MILLION THE THE STATES ALONE THAT IS AT LEAST 7-8 MILLION MORE THAN MADONNA. This fact has references even from Guinness World Records. I don't see any reference about Sir. Elton John. Remember, that sometimes, sales are inflated by fans and the media :). Regards, Chrishonduras (Diskussion) 06:00, 15 December 2017 (UTC)

DEAR ME SOME PEOPLE ARE STILL IN DENIAL. I WOULD NOT TRUST GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS AS FAR AS I COULD THROW THEM. FOR YEARS THEY HAD WHITE CHRISTMAS AS THE WORLDS BIGGEST SELLING SINGLE. QUITE RIGHTLY TRUE, ALONG COMES CANDLE IN THE WIND AND SUDDENLY DECCA RECORDS COMES UP WITH ANOTHER 20 MILLION IN SALES OVER THE THE LAST THIRTY ODD YEARS SO THEY CAN KEEP THE RECORD TALK ABOUT INFLATING SALES FIGURES .WHAT ALOAD OF BOLLOCKS!!!! SAME WITH MICHEAL JACKSONS SALES FIQURE OF 750 MILLION RECORDS SOLD, GUINNESS SWALLOWED THAT LOAD OF BULLSHIT HOOK LINE AND SINKER .THERES NOTHING INFLATED ABOUT ELTON JOHNS G.H10:24, 1 January 2018 (UTC)10:24, 1 January 2018 (UTC)10:24, 1 January 2018 (UTC)~ — Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.75.198.205 (talk)

Borderline

The version of "Borderline" on the collection is the 4-minute edit/remix, not the 5-minute album version. I've changed it and included a reference, but some idiot reverted it back. Ssredg (talk) 19:32, 18 March 2018 (UTC)
