Merging/Separation of song articles[edit]

Please note : There is a discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Songs/coverversions with the purpose of trying to establish a standard rule for merge/separate different versions of the same song. I think it would be best to first determine whether merging articles regarding cover versions of songs with articles regarding the original versions of songs is the customary practice on Wikipedia. "Novelty song"[edit]

I removed the "novelty song" category, since there's absolutely no indication in the article anywhere why this (or any of the covers) should be considered what WP itself describes as "built upon some form of novel concept, such as a gimmick, a piece of humor, or a sample of popular culture". The lyrics are opaque/meaningless, but that hardly qualifies as a novelty. It would be interesting if this was the first ever song where the author admitted the words had no intended meaning, but I doubt it can claim that honor.
