10cc as associated act[edit]

Surely 10cc counts? Many of their live songs are old 10cc hits. If anything, 10cc are more "associated" than The Buggles, since only Horn comes from The Buggles, and the only song the Producers borrow is "Video Killed the Radio Star"? On the other hand, all five members of the Producers have played at Buggles reunions (though not as official members).

Agreed. And I suppose Geoff Downes and Bruce Wooley of the Buggles have both worked with them. But by this rule, would you include the likes of Robbie Williams, whom both Soan and Horn have performed with? That seems a little silly to me. And what of other acts that have performed with the Producers that the members have (as producers) worked with? Tina Charles, for example. Does these come under the "no mutual producers" rule? Pretty confusing stuff when applied to this particular band. Arran64 (talk)
It is difficult to work out how to apply the rules, yes. It seems to me that the connection between Producers and The Buggles is more significant than that with Robbie Williams or Tina Charles, or 10cc. Horn is in both; Downes has played with Producers and seems to be on the album (although I await the liner notes with interest); and the Producers members have played in the recent Buggles reunion shows. A description of this recent resurgence of Buggles activity would necessarily have to talk about Producers. But who does or doesn't go into the associated acts list does seem to be a perennial issue for many Wikipedia articles. Bondegezou (talk) 12:09, 16 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I've tagged this article with {{notability}} and {{references}}. I considered putting this article up for deletion. We're talking about a band including at least three very notable people in their own right (Trevor Horn, Lol Creme and Chris Braide), which covers it under WP:MUSIC #6, "Contains at least one member who was once a part of or later joined a band that is otherwise notable; note that it is often most appropriate to use redirects in place of articles on side projects, early bands and such." Given this is an ongoing supergroup, handling it as a sub-section of one of their articles would not work so well. "Supergroup"[edit]

Still active?[edit]

The current version of the article starts off by "The Producers were a band...", the infobox say "Years active 2006 - 2009" but the last phrase in the article says "The original line up continue to perform as The Producers" and cites a source. So what is it - do they still exist or not? – IbLeo(talk) 07:50, 5 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It's not clear. Without Braide, they're continuing to work on an album, but under the name Us, yet they've also played with Braide as The Producers since announcing that strategy. Move/merge/duplicate article[edit]

  • The content in this article was cut and pasted to Producers (band), with this article being turned into a re-direct. That article has since been further developed. The band is now going under the name "Producers", rather than "The Producers", so it would be more sensible for this page to be a re-direct and Producers (band) to be the main article. We also want to preserve the edits made since to Producers (band). However, it would also be good to preserve the edit history of the older material. Would it be best for this article to be moved to Producers (band), but the more recent edits in that article to then be added in? Bondegezou (talk) 10:08, 3 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Inactive?[edit]

A couple of recent edits have sought to describe the band as inactive. It is true that we haven't seen any activity from the band for several months. However, I think we should bear in mind (1) policy pertaining to original research and reliable sources, and no reliable source citation has been offered in support of these edits; and (2) that a side-project like Producers is always going to have periods of less public activity, but that doesn't mean the band isn't still a going concern. Indeed, I would point out that a 17 August article in The Times ("Trevor Horn: the man who invented the Eighties", by Ed Potton) about Horn says, "He's not down on modern music per se, enthusing about Rizzle Kicks and, rather surprisingly, David Guetta, but he mourns the loss of fraternity: "There's so much less music made by groups of people now." It's an itch that he scratches through occasional performances with the Producers, a band formed with fellow producers Lol Creme, Steve Lipson and Ash Soan." This implies Producers remains active. The Trevor Horn Band?[edit]

Have they changed their name officially to the Trevor Horn Band? Recent press seems to suggest so...

They haven't said anything officially that I've seen, but the last few times they have assembled, they have performed as the Trevor Horn Band or Trevor Horn Orchestra and haven't played anything from Made in Basing Street IIRC. Bondegezou (talk) 11:01, 12 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Members[edit]

Is it worth mentioning in the infobox that the band seems to have either a lot of members, or members that are constantly changing now? I know it's only for live shows and that Horn, Lipson, Soan and Creme seem to be the constants, but is it worth putting a note in there? Also, maybe a personnel section detailing who's performed (as part of? With?) the band, and when? Just a thought. SnoopingAsUsual (talk) 10:22, 14 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
