Request to expand initial stub article[edit]

I started this article as a stub. I used info from the organizations own website to start the article. There are over 200 news stories that can be used as sources, which clearly establishes notability.[1] If anyone wants to help start adding info from these sources into the article, it would be appreciated. Thank you very much for creating the article. The conservancy's own website is hopeless at telling site visitors where the preserves are (incomplete map, no context), and this article, as a good encyclopedia should, puts them in context simply by listing the county of each preserve. I hope someone can expand the list to a table with info on acreage, elevation, habitat, etc. Kim9988 (talk) 04:47, 4 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Article has been expanded. Map shows preserve locations. Table contains acreage and elevation. Text has been expanded. Articles now exist for five of the preserves. More improvements coming. Conservancy expanded their website also. Hope your concerns have been addressed. BookOfDisquiet (talk) 20:22, 23 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Create articles for remaining preserves?[edit]

Five preserves have articles linked from this article. Plan to create a few more preserve articles but debating whether to create stubs for all. Some preserves have no/minimal citations available. Lists of parks often have stubs for all parks even those unlikely to ever be expanded. Any opinions? Choice is complete set of articles but some very shallow vs only articles with some depth. Seems like there should be some standard practice when doing articles for any list. BookOfDisquiet (talk) 20:44, 23 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Split article into organization and list of preserves plus improve existing preserve articles[edit]

Split the list of preserves information into a new article. Main article will focus on history and overview of organization and preserve system including photos of key regions. List of preserves article will include the table (perhaps slimmed down to better fit small screens). Will likely have map on both articles but one will be a small simple variation as is typically done for state park list articles.

Will expand existing preserve articles by drawing from a set of news links I've accumulated. Will add photos. Won't create new preserve articles unless one has a decent number of news articles.

Will use National Parks and State Park articles as input for organizing particularly the highly rated articles.

Once I finish these, I want to focus on state parks and other features in the Monterey Bay area. Several state park articles get many page hits but should be expanded based on news articles. Articles with fewer page hits will be lower priority.

For state parks and land conservancy articles it is always tricky determining what to document to avoid just duplicating material on agency websites plus not include information that likely will change. I've seen people listing fees and rules that seem likely to change and better suited for official park websites. But still tricky ascertaining which news articles make sense to summarize.

Articles often violate the notability guideline. There are articles on various rivers/creeks in Santa Cruz County including some pretty minor not well-known creeks. Ironically, one of the three major rivers (both in size and being well known) did not have an article so I created one a while back. Whatever the threshold is meant to be isn't used consistently.

@Adflatuss: Thanks for input you provided on your talk page. I had previously read much of that material but quite a while ago so was worth reviewing again. So many guidelines. BookOfDisquiet (talk) 05:39, 2 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

An ambitious plan, I am much less focused as I wander around Wikipedia. It seems editors have a tendency to give geographical features more leeway as to notability. If I see fees and hours in an article, I delete them (not travel guide) as they are already out of date or will be soon. Happy editing, Adflatusstalk 13:39, 2 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
