Broadcasters

Why are the international broadcasters included in the infobox? This is not the case in the British series articles.. (see The X Factor (UK series 7)) Sjc07 (talk) 12:14, 8 May 2011 (UTC)

They should be included like they are in the american idol article because american idol is broadcast on itv2 in the uk Fatty2k10 (talk) 13:10, 8 May 2011 (UTC)

Hi, in the American Idol articles (e.g. American Idol (season 1)) it only has Fox Broadcasting Company in the infobox - within the article it's - of course - fine to have the international broadcasters included. - Sjc07 (talk) 16:57, 8 May 2011 (UTC)

I have just added a reference to the Canada broadcasters (CTV and CTV2) in the article header and the "Judges Houses". I did this because with the delays caused by MLB, the Canadian audiences are now seeing some episodes before they are available to the American audience. - Ausage (talk) 22:31, 13 October 2011 (UTC)

NJ/NY Auditions

Does anyone who attended the original June 9th, 2011 taping in the afternoon know if the 17year old girl who sung "Born this Way (Lady Gaga) actually made it past bootcamp. There were more than a few blond girls during the bootcamp phase and she doesn't appear on the website.--Cooly123 19:39, 16 October 2011 (UTC)

It's called Simsub not Simulcasting.

Live Shows

On the original UK show it usually goes to public vote only at the Top 5, although last year it wasn't public vote only until the Top 4, but that was the only exception. So I'm expecting it'll either Top 5 or Top 4. 1Dbad (talk) 02:50, 24 November 2011 (UTC)

Drew Ryniewicz or just Drew?

Drew Ryniewicz is being mentored by Simon Cowell, who clearly said in live show 1 on 25 October 2011 that she will be known by a single name Drew, probably as practically nobody knows how her family name is pronounced... Regarding Drew and Astro.

The common practice has always been to refer to an act as they are advertised and marketed on the show. See American Idol, where Chikezie (Eze) and Mandisa (Hundley) dropped their surname for the voting rounds. (Not sure if Trenyce originally went by LaShundra 'Trenyce' Cobbins or not, but she chose that single name by the time voting began as well.) Also, Megan Corkrey first used her middle name, Joy, as Megan Joy Corkrey. Then she completely dropped her surname (because she was separated/divorced) and now goes simply by Megan Joy. The AI8 Wikipedia page doesn't list her as Corkrey, but rather as Megan Joy. Those examples and I'm sure many others are a precedent for the following:

As the person above mentioned, Simon explicitly stated Drew is just "Drew" now. She is choosing to be mononymous, presumably because her last name is difficult for some to pronounce. Ergo, she should only be listed on the charts and tables simply as Drew. Her full name can still easily be found on the list of finalists page.

And Astro is using a pseudonym, as many rappers (and aspiring ones) do. Once again, this is what they are calling him. And it is only appropriate that we do the same. His birth name will be listed on the finalists page.--Cinemaniac⁸⁶_{Dane_Cook_Hater_Extraordinaire} 12:30, 26 October 2011 (UTC)

Results Summary

• Myself, I'd go for one line -- there's no reason to make the chart visually larger that it needs to be. Perhaps the UK X-Factor pages could go to one line? Also, I wonder if there's part of the American Idol charts, such as American Idol (season_10)#Elimination_chart, that could be used here, and definitely vice versa. -- ArglebargleIV (talk) 20:07, 26 October 2011 (UTC)

The UK ones are on two lines because at the end of the series, they will anyway because we'll fill in the voting percentages when they are released. See series 7 for an example. I don't know if this will happen in the US, but if not, it can stay on a single line. I've never liked how American Idol did these things, the tables have always looked a mess to me. Since we're on the subject, I'd like to discuss the odd shift in how the results are displayed around Week 5. On Weeks 1-4, it only indicates if an act was in the bottom two. With Week 5, there was a bottom three, and now the bottom acts are ranked based on positioning. One apparent reason for the change was that Week 5 saw a deadlocked judging panel, with the tiebreaker being public votes. Thus, we knew exactly how the bottom three were ranked, since the lowest act (Lakoda Rayne) was removed immediately, then LeRoy Bell was eliminated after the judges deadlocked, as he had fewer votes than Marcus Canty. On Week 6, Astro is shown in 7th place since he had the fewest votes, but then Drew and Marcus Canty are shown as "bottom three" again.

I really have no preference for how these are laid out, but we need some consistency. In the American Idol tables, the singers are placed based on when they were eliminated based on the overall competition, not the voting on that given night (although, when you think about it, it does match up still). My preference is leaving acts labeled as "bottom X", even on nights when the voting results are made clear (Weeks 5 and 6). If they decide to release the vote totals later, as was suggested above, then we can change it to something else.

I see the rationale, but to me it just sticks out too much. I'm also afraid it might encourage editors to fill in the remaining ones to match, even with no evidence to support said placement (except for the aforementioned weeks). The vote tabulation table at the bottom explains the votes, then the week summaries indicate the "why" (and thus would explain why LeRoy Bell left after a 2-2 vote on the panel). --McDoobAU93 18:59, 5 December 2011 (UTC)

The ONLY time that ranking should be used is if;

• a) the act was eliminated imediately with no final showdown (bottom three)
• b) the judges vote goes to deadlock and then we know the outcome of the public vote.

I got a look at that format, and based on how rarely it appears to occur, I think that's actually not too bad. As you point out, it is consistent with other X Factor articles. Individual picture for L.A. Reid (without Mariah Carey)

It is very inaccurate and misleading to include a picture of Mariah Carey alongside L.A. Reid in the judges section. Mariah Carey has nothing to do with The X Factor judging, so her appearing in this section is not acceptable. Don't we have another picture of L.A. Reid in which he appears all alone? Only 1 round on Finale

In the results tab, the finale is seperated in 2 rounds. This is the case of the UK version since one contestant is eliminated on the first night and there are two voting rounds. In the US version, there is only one "round" because the public vote only once, and the 3rd-place finisher is eliminated on the second night, just as the others. --Maxime9232 (talk) 18:39, 26 December 2011 (UTC)

Cast changes

Since this article is merely about the first season of the show and not the show itself, I don't believe any discussion of the January 2012 casting changes (the removal of Steve Jones, Nicole Scherzinger and Paula Abdul) are that appropriate because the season ended before these changes took place. It is appropriate to mention, however, that Scherzinger took the place of Cheryl Cole, who started out as a judge but left the panel during the audition phase, since that occurred during the season. What do others think about this? Should we leave the article's contents to what has taken place within the season, or include some discussion about what's happened afterwards? --McDoobAU93 18:28, 1 February 2012 (UTC)
